well just got back from cowm :thumb2

lots of smoke loud rattle when you put foot down :doh

will do 60 using the choke with no smoke and noise so i guess it is the turbo shot :nenau

any other ideas ? and what type of turbo do i need :nenau

If the turbo is shot you would have loads of smoke. once the seals go the engine oil gets consumed by the engine ask any saab owner i break them as well:lol

is their an easy way to check ???

Examination is the best way, but you can get an idea by removing the outlet hose from the turbo and run the engine, get someone to give it some revs while you hold your hand over outlet, you should feel a good pressure, if you have just lost some blades inlet or exhaust this will dramaticaly effect the pressure, inlet blades could end up in the engine "rattling" and engine damage, exhaust blades just disappear down the pipe, Rick

the rattle is only when reved and is only if i look to have turbo spooling ??

when driving with out turbo as such no rattle even at 2500rpm only when i try to excelerate from that point it starts to smoke and rattle

OK does sound like turbo, Adz I think has one, give him a pm, Rick

If you can here the turbo spooling then there's nothing wrong with it also you definitely wouldn't be able to hit that sort of speed...

I'd look in day light & with a torch at the EGR pipe that comes off the turbo manifold & goes round the back of the engine by the bulk head to the EGR valve.
It might be the pipe rattling where its rusted & snapped (like mine did).

If it is the turbo it may only be a seal...

If it is the EGR valve pipe, then cut it 1" from the manifold & weld a bolt in. At the EGR valve just buy a blanking plate or make your own from a sheet of thin ally or steel.

if i got a bit of water and grit into the turbo would that cause problems ?? as my airfilter is soaked

it seems that i can only do about 30mph with just the accelerator but then if i use the choke it will go a little faster

BAD NEWS :doh

Get the filter out & bin it
Dry the housing & take it all off & out

Then look in the turbo & you should be able to see the fan fins
Put something thin in there & turn to see if all the fins are intacted

Then start it & have a listen

Does now sound like the turbo but worst case is you have done ya engine

How deep was the water you went in...

Air filter soaked, what have you been doing, water into the engine this way could be bad news, take the filter out and bin it, and whats this bit about the choke, it is a hand throttle nothing more, while the linkage is on the pump there is no connection to the pump other than to the go faster lever, how does it go with the filter removed? Rick

i know nuffin , but what i do know is , water will not compress inside a cylinder .......

quite deep lol went over the wheels and covered the bumper and a bit up to the bonnet

didnt realise how deep it was as all the other were alot shallower on the same bit and it was part of the route

but it was working fine for another lap or 2 round then we sat waiting for about 30 mins and then left for home

their is no smoke on tick over and the coolant hasnt gained or lost anything and no additional noise on tick over either

i ran the way home with the filter out as i thought it was the reason for the no power, their wasnt alot of water in the housing and it didnt look that dirty so guess it didnt get that much in but then again it could have

Ive got 1 for half that price if needed:thumb2

cheers will keep it in mind if i have goosed the engine then i will be looking for a new truck lol

i really think i should look at the snorkle as it is just silly things like wading that causes problems lol:augie:augie:eek:

altho have some vids lol and in 1 you can see how high the water went

Im with you pete, but as you say water in the block aint no good at all.

Rick,Adz, would it be any good saying "check the oil to see if theres water mixed in with it" just a thought????

or

check the radiator for oil again just a thought.

If youve lost or bent turbo fins you will almost certainly get vibration from the turbo.

Screwdriver stethoscope trick or if its cool enough hand on it will give a clue.

Dont over rev it until youve examined internally as far as poss as adz suggested.

The reason is dead simple, if it has shed or bent a blade over revving could led to it disintegrating under load :naughty

Seen or more to the point heard turbos go

got a link for the vids ????

If he has sucked water in through the air filter and it is in the engine oil or the rad, bin the engine, Rick

Bit of Maverick learning for me here. Isnt the 2.7 a diesel? (ive no idea what engines they were offered with) if it is where does the choke fit in
