hi guys, im relaying this second hand as my wife thinks the trucks broke. She cant get 1st or 2nd gear apparantley. i have just changed the slave cylinder and it was fine yesterday but i thought id put a shout out for advice before i get home tonight and drag it into the garage to tinker.

hi mark, check under the drivers side along chassis there is a damper pipe for the clutch, these tend to rust badly and leak, also at the rear end of the pipe there is a bleed nipple, it's a bit awkward to get to, i cut a hole in the rear floor when i did mine lol, if the pipe is leaking, remove the end in the slave cylinder and put a small ball bearing in and refit pipe, many members have done this with no ill affects:thumbs:naughty

Thanks
i'll check the fluid level when i get home see if it's leaked. I was going to diaconnect the damper when i changed the slave cylinder but ran out of time :( could it be anything more serious? I don't fancy a big bill round crimbo time :( will know a bit more later when ive had a go myself.

3rd and 4th i think are ok as she used them to drive home! bet that was fun at the lights :augie dont know about 5th or reverse

Well that sounds odd if its a clutch problem - you'd expect to get no gears at all wouldn't you?

Synchromesh bolloxd? Other gearbox problem? - they are a known weakness I'm afraid.....

Might just be linkage if you're lucky?

oh not liking the sound of this one much (cue fingers in ears la la la not listening) hopefully its not gonna be serious but if its the linkage is it easy to adjust, and if its the gearbox tattered how expensive is that?

I am not knowledgeable at all but had probs with my linkage on an LDV van. It just popped off the bearing and depending onwhat gear you were in, you lost the other two - ie either 3 or 4 were lost or 1 and 2.

If the gear stick is walloping around with a lot more movement then it would be linkage.

sorted thanks guys, it's lost the clutch fluid so over the hols will trace the leak and sort that. For now topped up & bled so hunky dory in the snow this morning :)
cheers & merry crimbo to all
