odd oil/fuel leak

Well it has, no dirt or oil around mine, so mine was probably fitted correctly with the appropriate sealant.
I just looked at my French service manual, the pic below clearly shows it, but there is no reference to it in the manual. Unless it is some type of oil pressure relief valve like the one near the oil filter...:nenau
The pic shows them pressure testing the fuel pump I think..

cheers guys, definitely the oil cooler then. Thankfully it looks like its leaking out if that "blanking plug" or whatever it is. You can just see it seeping out so I assume under pressure it blobs a teeny bit more out. Its not a massive leak, but one I want to fix. As said, I will loosen it, or even remove it and apply some PTFE or similar and fingers crossed fix it!

Just in case it is a pressure releif valve, be aware there could be a spring and ball bearing behind it, so remove the last bit carefully, just in case.
You should be able to tell by how much wobble is on the allen headed bolt as you get near to fully removing it. If wobbly... no tension behind it.:thumb2

actually i think I had a diagram - I wonder if that shows it, ill go check...

here we go - got this from MakeITFit. Clearly it shows a spring at the bottom, but that isn't where it is leaking. At the top, where the hex bolt is, there isn't any identification.

What do you think, safe to undo? seems it to me...?!

hmm..looks like we are onto something!

Well, my plan is to adjust the top bolt thing first - the bottom one has a spring/valve wotsit so im not touching that first, plus id loose all my oil ...


ill let you know what I find, but I suggest giving yours a clean, then see if its leaking the same place as mine./

As I suggested in post 20, it could be to blank off a machining process that provided an oilway.

So a replacement blank is needed? Or removal and resealing? :nenau

not sure Alex. Best I can describe it is its like a oil sump plug, or a differential plug...so I assume its probably alright, and perhaps an O-Ring is in there or it simply needs some ptfe.

I do wonder how common a thing this actually is....its very difficult to spot, and loss of oil isn't even noticeable.

I just hope that I can at least loosen and remove the plug without any oil exploding forth - its an unknown territory I think for everyone...!

What we need is someone with a scrap engine, to remove the plug and stand back...
Problem is... not many of those about these days, now if it was a Navara... different story lol...

I'd say not, as it only leaks (I presume) when the engine is hot and running...

otherwise id have oodles of oil lost....

If it's under pressure, it will leak a lot as you start to slacken it.
Alternatively, leave it overnight, for any pressure to drop, and undo first thing.

Mind you, to be fair, I wouldn't want to be the first one to try it lol... I know how you feel.:augie

If in doubt... leave it alone, until some brave soul has tried it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Just thinking... what you need is a former Land Rover owner who has moved over to a Terrano, after all, he would have spent ages chasing leaks for years, mind you that was probably a waste of time and he probably gave up, and just topped up the oil weekly.:augie

I think Land Rovers no longer specify an oil change interval, as all the oil leaks out during the year and is constantly replaced with new.:lol:lol

sorry mate, not as yet. Ive been waiting for some better weather but I had my other halfs Saxo in for MOT recently so had a few jobs to do on that instead.
