Some of you may have noticed I've not been about as much as usual recently, well apart from the usual other issues I've been tied u with a little project, its a real wolf in sheeps clothing.

As I bought her

Then there's all the bits that aren't so easy to see....... too

Ran it on first event with this engine (4g92 SOHC)

Which was good enough and we came home 5th, which I was well pleased with after a driving lay off of some 10 years or so, but the hankering for some power came so I fitted this (4G92 DOHC Mivec)

Still bits to do and some tidying up though.

whats a 4G92 DOHC Mivec?

larson

The 4G92 is a 1600cc Mitsubishi engine used in Colts, Lancers etc all are 16valve but there are 2 dual over head cam (DOHC) versions the ordinary one which is as rare as hens teeth in the UK, but similar to the 4G93 1800cc DOHC used in the Colt and Proton Satria GTi's as well as in turbo form in the precursor to the Mitsi EVO the Lancer GSR.

The Mivec engine uses variable valve timing (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Electronic Control) to produce 175bhp at 7500rpm, Mivec mode doesn't engage till 6200rpm and soft cut for the rev limit is 8200rpm - all this from a production 1600cc engine. It was a big jump from the 96bhp of the previous engine.

8200rpm, sounds a scream(er) and 175bhp from 1600 wow
thats pretty good isnt it.

is all that from a road going bottom end rpm wise then?

i would black the windows, off with the spots and get some crap music on with the hat back to front and go teach the kids a lesson or 2:D.

Yep all standard engine straight out of a Colt Cyborg RS - only thing I've done is add a K&N filter, but only really cos I got it cheap, wouldn't have paid full price, just use a ordinary paper one. Naughty me didn't even drop the sump and check the shells before putting it in - it really howls :D:D:D

Because the manifold shares its pattern with the Lancer GSR people turbo charge them, common mod is 1834cc bottom end and even an overbore to give up to 1996cc, skys the limit really on power. These engines are the equivalent of Honda's Vtech, only we never got any over here only imports. EVO IX & X now uses Mivec technoloy as does some of the V6 FTO's but the 1600 is a little known gem.

You can build a 4x4 version using Mitsi running gear, or even full EVO setup with almost no structural mods (small part of boot floor needs reshaping) 900bhp in a proton is not unheard of.....not sure they'd be much cop off road though.

Do you wear a nice flat cap, crimpelene trousers and tartan slippers when you go to the Derby & Joan Club in it ?
