Been having problem not starting it turns over the MIL light comes on then it starts only the day light go's off, Taking it to have codes read today could it be the ignition switch will it have a code.

Glen

read downloads, you can read your own codes.

take a quick look at the batery terminals as well, also in download section.

yeah id read your own codes and save yourself money unless youre having it done free?

ignition switch...i believe it does have a code, but the mil light being on is normal at that stage if the car isnt starting, so might not represent a code in the system.

does it turn over?

Yes it turns over when you turn ignition back in off turn again it starts not sure if its fuel or electrical

Not confident reading codes have printed off

ok, try this, turn the key megga slowly...im talking super slow, and see if it starts first time doing it that way. if it does, its your ignition switch, contacts might be getting burnt out, happened to mine.

dont be afraid of checking those codes, all you need is a paper clip, you wont break owt if you follow those instructions and its very easy, but its up to you, not sure what your paying to have it done...

id also seriosuly consider your main positive wire to the starter-mine was corroded in the clamp, this caused starting issues for me. also check the two larger earth wires (one runs under the coolant bottle) soem rub against the chassis, and corrode where you cant see...

Codes

Here go's only two in memory

Iacu-acc valve

Atmospheric pressure sensor

Now one 18 & other 25 on his machine reader

On our download 18 is fuel quantity adjuster / position sensor malfunction

25 is Fuel quantity-circuit malfunction

Not sure what this all means. Paid £10.00 and he will read again if and when it happens again because they were two.

18 is on the pump-comes up on mine sometimes but i ignroe it as it alwasy goes away-rogue code for me. 25 however does suggest a fuelling issues....

sounds like another CKP sensor fail to me.. Ask Clivvy he's been there....

Bet its pump, i have had these codes from day one 18/25 and have replaced CRP sensor and still have these codes come up. the vehicle still cuts out at lights and i now have another pump to get overhauled and fit in the next couple of weeks, will let you all know the out come.:thumbs

true, could be ckp but that would throw a code im sure of it....

if you have a faulty ckp, it wont start. if you have one thats on its way out, it will cut out WHEN WARM.

you can actually disconnect the CKP sensor and it will still start as its for reference only and not signal for injectors etc.

up/date

Its only cut out once when driving down hill no revs it just stopped re- started ok from that day i have had trouble every 4 to 5 days some days first turn then others 6/7 times and the MIL light on,go's off quick I have put some milners power plus in tank to help clean ???and at the week end will change diesel filter its only done 4000 mile but the car is stood in summer.

The only other thing i might try is i have a power box fitted hard wired i might disconnect from battery for a week. 7 year old will try with out.

with that information, id certasinly consider the CKP and No1 injector. same thing happened to me. i believe it was a combination of the two faults plus some others i had. sometimes it woudl drive fine, others it woudl cut out, not start etc. I had to replace CKP, No1 injector, starter wire, starter motor, fuel filter, main earth wire to block plus some other little bits. doing this cleared all codes, i only had a couple of reoccurances for code 18, say if I stalled it, but recently that codes hasnt come back but ive driven more daily now....

What is the ckp not sure.

Glen

Crankshaft Position Sensor. firstly, it tells the ecu where the crankshaft position is. it affects timing, fueling etc based on the position. when it starts to go, you get odd running issues, bad starting and definately stalling. Usually you get the issues when the CKP is WARM/HOT, this is because over time, the magnet inside the sensor becomes less efective, and this effectivness is affected by the heat. Its located at the front of the block, between the belts. Wire runs up over the water pump to the block of conenctors. its a small, flat ended cylinder and of course, its magnetic.

not cheap im afraid, new from Nissan only its about £200 :( but when i fitted mine, it was like a new car. Same for Jim and same for a few others. but of course you need to be fairly sure this is theissue before spending.

what year is your car, and what mileage?

Thanks

1997/98 wait for it 145000 I have had the car since 2003.

Glen

Thanks

The t2 has been the best car i have every had next year looking to buy a 04/05

CKP

Rang GSF CKP £ 79.00 So will see how it go's

Glen

that wont be the right ckp mate, i can almost guarantee it, it will be the wrong size, wrong plug.

at 145k miles, id be surprised if this issue wasnt the ckp. i only had 114k on mine when mine went....
