Ok so my 2.7 has never been that quick at starting but the problem has developed now. It will start after continuous cranking I changed the diesel filter today and cleaned mini filter in the banjo on the ip I have also fitted a clear inline filter in rubber hose before main filter so that I would be able to check for air bubbles but it seems fine.
It is a late model 2.7 with a Bosch pump (has bosch maff) does it have a changeable fuel shut off solenoid?

This will be you glow plugs, you probably had one out for a while but now more have failed, get them changed and you will be fine, Rick

I agree with Rick, when it's started is it very lumpy and lots of grey/white smoke that stinks?

I will change the glow plugs as they have been in a while now which brand should I go for to avoid the ceramic ones.

Could even be glo plug relay behind the battery in the wing

Thanks for the advice fitted the Lucas glow plugs this morning & truck started instantly so I am going to order another set to keep as spare.
As Rick says I think one of the old plugs probably never worked from new as the truck never started this well last time I changed them & it has steadily got worse.

Glad it's sorted mate, did you get the LP079?

Yes I did get the LP079. Also noticed while I was under the bonnet that the water pump is weeping so I will have to get that changed as soon as I can.
