Anybody know of any possible faults that may arise with this scenario.

When letting of the power in normal driving conditions the car is making a nasty squealing noise that goes once the clutch is pressed. only seems to make the squeal when letting the power off though!!

Not sure what it might be but its not the thrust bearing they make a noise when you depress the clutch. Could be bearing noisy on the over run in the gearbox - have you check/changed you box oil recently.

yes mate changed them last week and transfer box. the noise goes when I foot my foot down on the clutch. do you think it would be a good idea to start looking for a gear box??

would a box of a mk1 maverick/terrano fit and do the same job?

what type of spigot bearing do these vehicles have?, i had a ford once that had similar problem turned iut to be spigot bearing in back of cranksharft. :thumbs

had the same noise on my 2.7tdi and that was a worn layshaft bearing.never got round to changing it just got used to the noise.

IS IT BIG JOB TO CHANGE?

maybe should run it over to yours one night elt let you have a listen and see what you think.

shall i start looking for another box then?

thing is you could put a secondhand box on and it have the same problem unless you have heard the motor running before you buy it.have seen a kit for about £80 on e bay but its gonna be a pretty big job as you have got to get the box off, strip it and repace the shaft and bearing, assemble it then put it back on the motor.
either way the gearbox has got to come off.
have got that centre bit for the dash for you here so if you want to run over and fetch that then i can have a listen.kill two birds with one stone then.

I had similar problems with my MkI 2.7TD, when slowing down through the gears, I had this whine...
I used molyslip in March 2007, this is what I wrote on a previous thread.

I have now changed the gearbox oil, added 105ml of molyslip G and 100ml of multiglide, I jacked up the passenger side and overfilled by approx 200ml, I took her for a 20 mile drive to get the oil circulating, and 2 days later the gear box noise has reduced by 80% I could not believe it.
I did the transfer box, but only added 50ml of G and 50ml of multiglide.
Tip, in order to fill the gearbox and avoid gear oil running down your arm, get a 1 metre length of garden hose with a funnel at one end open the bonnet and thread the hose down the back of the engine, ty-wrap the funnel to the fuel filter hoses then go below and position the pipe into the fill hole, but wedge it up so that the pipe flows down into the gearbox, otherwise the oil will run back along the hose.
Warm the oil container first (in a bucket of hot water) and it goes in a treat.

Worth a try, still drives well, no major noise now, there is still some whine but it's probably ok for another 2 years I guess..
Hope this helps.
Best regards, Rustic

Good news..............

Jacked the beast up today to have a quick look and have cured the problem. Nothing serious as the propshaft was rubbing the dust cover as it entered the back of the box, I would never have thought that it would have made so much noise. Removed the shaft flapdisced it all up and greased it all up. Just got back from a run round and all seems good....
