That's so weird I've not seen anything like that before and I look forward to seeing what it turns out to be :nenau

Does the ATP light stop flashing too when you force the lever to the right?

Is the noise 100% coming from behind that kick panel?

Screwdriver!

No not calling you one but you might be able to identify the relay. Basically put the blade of the screwdriver on the relays in tuen and put your ear against the handle. The noise travels up the screwdriver :thumbs
Oh, I see, Jim. I'll need to do this.

Yes, it does stop the ATP light flashing, though it sounds like it's coming from there. Not 100% to be honest. I feel it's like a connection issue which involves transfer box, but as I haven't got complete information, not sure why/how this is happening. :confused:

Sounds likely to me mate, I reckon you need to get underneath and get someone to do what you were doing inside as you watch whats going on

If you have a passenger then you can usually feel the relay click if you can reach it with your fingers and hold the relay body with your finger tips. Might be something as basic as a poor connection / earth rather than a relay fault though a dry joint is possibe inside bearing in mind the vibration you have with a diesel engine.

I have certainly been able to "feel" relays clicking in as well as hearing them. Might be worth just removing the relay and plugging it back in again if the connection has oxidised a little.

Just a little bit update. This morning apart from I called out the garage to replace a flat tyre for my Scenic, I managed to open the plastic trim in passenger foot well.

Here's my finding;
There's one small black box where a few cables go in. It was screwed so I unscrew it and took it off. This is the connector;

and this is a suspect; Sorry I didn't take a picture when they are in place.

So basically what I found was that this little box seems to be making noise as I felt clicking vibration from it but any other place. When I touched, I felt this vibration so I assume this is the one.

Now I'm not quite sure if this box is a real cause or if this is coming from an issue of connection or something from the transfer box. Looks like this little box can be replaced easily (I might need to check the manual EL to see what this is for.).

I was quite tempted to start engine without connecting this bit but had a fear if it would break something without this box, I didn't test. But if this isn't necessary when I drive 2wd, then tentative solution would be just disconnect this if it doesn't impact....:rolleyes:

Thank you for the link. I added to my Watch list.

So the quickest way without touching transfer box is just to replace this box to see if it rectifies....delivery would be after New Year!:doh

Post a pic of the relay dude, I've got some floating around in my box of spares in the garage.

Thank you - that's in my post and it's 25230-79972 - 7.95 (Thanks, macabethiel)
Ah sorry dude, I'm on my phone and didn't see the picture, I have one of those I think in the garage, where abouts are you in London?

Nah, that's ok.

I'm in East London, not far from Canary Wharf.

Leave it with me, let me check I have one first and then I'll see if I can get you one, will be in the new year though I reckon?

Thank you very much, Banshee. Actually I was thinking to get this from eBay this time as I'd get this sorted before new year....unless we can settle that you'd post it for a quick delivery (provided I'd pay the postage as well) - though it'd be a bit hustle, wouldn't it...?

OK I can state that this relay is most unlikely to be the cause of your problem but more likely the result, (why? because it is a standard relay with no diode across the coil, had it have the diode then the diode could of failed causing the problem, but as it is not there then no) your problem is going to be gearbox/tranfer box switches or bad connections, you have stated that pulling the transfer lever over stops it? but there are no switches on the transfer lever so my guess is that you are moving some wiring which due to bad connection is the problem, Rick

Oh and by the way try it without the relay you cannot do any harm by doing this, Rick

This certainly is a weird one :nenau

My first guess was going to be that the transfer lever guide plate was loose and when pushed over to the side stopped the rattle but that doesn't explain the ATP light and clicking relay.

There isn't any wiring down near the transfer lever :S This one has got me stumped, I'm really looking forward to finding out what is causing this.

But as said, you deffo need to get under the truck and have a look what's going on near that transfer lever

Zac you have a very good point there, if the plate is loose then it may not be holding the lever in the correct possition so the switch/switches which are all on the selector rods may not be deff on or off, Rick

OK slight step back to beginning of the thread. You said the truck was MOTd the week before, so did the garage carry out any work to get the truck through its test? If so what? Have they disturbed something in the area they were working on perhaps?

Is there anything in a MOT test that if done incorrectly could cause any damage to these trucks? especially if someone has pressed,pulled, forced levers they shouldn't. Rolling roads etc. Do not know how things are tested, should though my father is a mechanic.
