this has been bugging me for a long time now but, when i took my cd player and black centre dash fasia out my old rotten swb and put it in my good lwb (vents were broken) i stoped receiving any signal, so i thought it was the aerial. got a new aerial plugged it into the radio and still nothing it worked in my swb with the rear roof aerial but not with the wing aerial. so when i was removing the roof lining from the swb, i took all the aerial wire and aerial roof mount out and plugged it in to my radio and still nothing . it worked perfectly in the swb but not in the lwb even though i put the complete aerial from it in :banghead:doh:nenau any ideas??? im getting tired of listening to CDs all the time:doh

Was your old swb an import as they often have some sort of frequency booster thingy :nenau

nope it didnt have any japanese or spanish parts it didnt have any sort of booster or band expander from what i could see :(

perhaps your radio itself needs to be earthed to the car rather than just the aerial ,,,, there shouldbe a earth connector on the rear of the radio

or it is possible you may have damaged the aerial socket when unplugging it

there was a pink earth wire for the touch screen but i earthed it to the metal bar in the dashboard.

but did you check if the bar in the dash is actually earthed? a meter will show you if it is :thumb2

if the aerial socket on the back of the radio isnt damaged . ie by pulling the aerial lead out you may have inadvertantly pulled the connections at the back of the socket ... if that is not the fault ( and its a bit rare , but it does happen ) ...... then your problem is a earthing problem , be it on the radio ( not a good enough earth ) ..... or the ground ( earth ) on the aerial coax is most likely your problem

to recap

you have sound when playing a cd ..... audio stage is ok then

you have fm hiss ..... tuner is ok then

just needs a " clean signal " in my opinon

I think it's probably a weak earth. I'll add some good thick 12 volt wire to the short pink wire and earth it to a more conductive place on the body. I'll try and add some pictures so you can see better what I mean. Thanks everyone for the help:thumb2

try snapping the Aeriel off and replacing with a bent coat-hanger, used to work well on Cortinas :augie
