Hi guys, hope someone can help with my ignition problem. I have a 2003 Terrano that had been running fine until i got back in after stopping at a shop. I put the key in and no ignition lights, but the truck fired up no problem. Things not working are Rev dial, Speedo dial, Led's for mileage and clock and ignition lights. No mileage is being recorded while driving but my lights and indicators are working fine. When lights are put on the Rev and Speedo dials light up as they should and both fog bulbs light up when switched on. I have checked the fuses and they are fine, am i right in saying there is no ignition fuse and that it may be something to do with a relay. Both fuel and temp dials not working either. I think i may also have a Thermostat problem as the dial only moved slightly from cold, giving me warmish air. I think it may be stuck in open position and will need replacing, but is it tied to my ignition problem??
Any help would be much appreciated. :nenau

Probably the ignition switch itself give it a wriggle a few times and also check the key has actually returned to the rest position after starting. If not that then check fuses.
These engines run very cool anyway check water pump for leaks etc while your nosing about. At least a thermo only a few quid :thumbs

2003 sounds like the dash is faulty they are troublesome hope its not ur problem as its £430 for new unit goodluck

If it does turn out to be the dash unit, there is a voltage regulator on the dash unit, quite possible it may be this (or the associated connections) that's defective.
IIRC. it should regulate the dash supply to 8 volts.

Thanks guys I think I have a few things to check out, but I don't think this is going to be the easy fix I was hoping for.:thumbs

Where does the supply for the lights cone from? Ecu?

Have a look on the clocks, look at the speedo, they maybe a name on it, is it something like Magnet Minelli, if it is its a comon fault although i was sure they stopped fitting then on the 02 plate.

If it is this set of clocks, then get i the que to find some, last guy took 6 months and iv been looking for 2. I have found a company that will tkae the units and repair them though.

Not contacted any of them yet as i was hoping to find another set. Mines lost Revs, Speed, Fuel, Temp and all of the digital display. I have put a satnav in to see how fast im driving, the rest i just do without for now, just keep a gallon of diesel in the boot in case my guessing on how much i have is out a bit. LOL

Ok it's the Meter fuse that is blowing causing the dash to stop working. It has blown a couple of times now and I have no idea why. I recently installed a 12N socket, I did this by tracing the correct wires and soldering the 12N wires into the harness. Everything worked perfectly once hooked up to the caravan, and I was quite proud of myself. I did a good job on that so I dont think that is the problem.
The other problem I had was water leaking in through the front roof arial after I tried to adjust it. (very tight) The fuse first blew a day or two after the leaking problem started. I have since replaced the arial and put a little mastic under the base and this has sorted the leak. The fuse blew again today and it always happens after you have stopped/removed the key then try to start again. As I said earlier the truck starts and runs fine, just that the Meter fuse knocks out the dash.
I need to have a look at the manual and see what the Meter fuse is actually doing.

Ok a final update, after speaking to an auto electrician who said this could be down to condensation build up. I replaced the thermostat which i had an idea was needing done as the temp gauge only went up by a quarter and topped up my coolant. I also put an electric blower heater that i use for the caravan into the car overnight to dry out everything. Hey what do you know, no more blown Meter fuse. Now my temp gauge goes all the way to half, the car gets nice and warm where as before the heater was on full and the heat was poor. I also replaced the cabin/pollen filter which was quite badly gunged up. By the way when i checked the old thermostat in a pan of boiling water, it opened and closed once removed. Everything is now working as it should and im as happy as off roader up to his wheelnuts in mud.
This site has helped me so much with other issues and even just for good advice.
I love being a Terrano owner.
Mines is a 2003 2.7 SE Black
:D :D :D :D :thumbs

The condensation was from leaving the dogs in the back with no windows down. It was pissing with rain though.
Lesson learned.
