Could anyone advise if it is a common problem on a Nissan Terrano SE TD 2.7 when cold that it is like a snail going up hills. Severe loss of power?

Definitely not a Aston Martin

Any comments please.

Could be the MAF sensor?
Best bet initially is to see if there are any error codes....

Could be the MAF sensor if it has one - look in the downloads section for how to check it.

How long / steep a hill are we talking about???

Simple test is to see if the car will rev above 3000rpm or just unplug the MAF and see if it drives the same... if it does its prob knackered!!!

un plug the maf.

if its no better or even worse then it not the maf..

I'm sure theres a download on the MAF sensor. Also some of the earlier TDI's still had a mini filter so check the downloads for the mini filter too.
I got some contact cleaner and sprayed it on the wire in the MAF and also on the mesh but if you try this DO NOT TOUCH THE WIRE WITH ANYTHING!!!

In theory it should run better in the cold.....the cooler air means the MAF/ECU squirts more fuel in because cold air has more oxygen than warm air.

But remember the TD only has 100bhp as standard, it ain't no rocket.....
