Just read on bbc news nissan are to recall 60 thousand cars due to faulty air bags on models built between 2000/and04 models x trail patrol terrano2 navara
Any body else heard

Just heard it on the radio, it's to do with the passenger airbags having too much pressure and exploding bits of plastic dashboard into the victims!

Mick

I've heard too. Apparently, over 50% of the vehicles are Toyotas.

Number to call if the manufacturer can't contact you direct is 01923 899334 :thumb2

Guess who's owned an '04 Terrano for less than 24 hours? :doh

its amazing they can recall faulty cars after 13 years but when it comes to faulty cookers whick catch fire or gas people they dont bother to recall them just let people die

That's OK, at least it's being recalled,
is it just 04, may give that number a call and see if the 2005 models are OK.

It certainly won't hurt to call them. I haven't yet, but I'll have the vehicle docs handy when I call tomorrow just in case they need the VIN

Never did like air bags, I put a vid on here some place of one I set off going high into the air, Rick

was 4 jap brands i think.

noted other day that on visor said airbag needs checking at 10 years old, mines a late 2002, 52.

atleast they are being recalled, good for them taking ownership so far down line, just as toyota did last year was it.

Thats the one Pete, I would never have found it, can you believe the guy in Lacropades vid where he sat on it! I think he hit his head on the workshop roof and I bet his back side was sore, what a plonker, Rick

Called up the number earlier and it looks like it's only Nissans up to 2003 that are affected so Foxy (54 plate) is fine.:thumb2

Operator was very helpful, I imagine he's had 100s of similar calls already today!

ive heard of people talking about disconnecting air bags as they think they don't need them because they are " safe " drivers , but you must factor in the stupidity of other drivers on the road too

Agreed Pete, I do not have an air bag and I do not wear a seat belt either, but that is my choice, and if that choice is responsible for my demise then so be it, all I can say is I have covered well over 1 million miles and apart from teenage motor bike stupidities have had only one serious accident, that was caused by a heavy object KO ing me at the wheel of a truck, and had I been belted I would have lost my life, so I remain indifferent to legislation, and do things my way, regards Rick

When ever we attend an RTC, we have to fit a protector bag to the steering wheel if the air bag has not detonated, it's amazing how many times they fail to go off in some quite serious smashes.
The problem now days is the amount of airbags fitted...cutting a roof off can be quite tricky

D'you know? That's something that never even entered my head when it came to the rescue services. I can imagine with curtain & side airbags it can make life pretty difficult if they haven't deployed.

I seem to remember reading that the 'inflators' are actually sintered explosive powder pellets?

We always try to disconnect the battery and fit the wheel cover as a matter of course, we now have data terminals in the trucks which allow us to see upto date info on vehicle construction, this helps a lot, but when a car is badly damaged, you do have to be careful when cutting.
This is why at some RTC's, we will take longer as we will try and remove inner trim, this allows us to check what's behind.
The other big danger is the 240V systems in some cars, you need to be careful when dealing with car fires as this can expose the system
