Hello

Having a problem with the girlfriends Micra, it's a 2003 diesel it's slow to start / won't start.

The car is turning over but intermittently not starting, if I jump it it always starts . I know this sounds like batters but it's charging ok around 14v and with the engine stopped but lights on holds 12.8v ???

Thinking possibly battery or could it be the starter motor?

Just if it's the starter motor don't see how it starts ok with a jump?

I've checked all connections around battery, alternator, starter and the car ground points ???

Thanks in advance

I've had exactly that issue with my Maverick and it turned out to be my starter motor failing. Would always start from a jump start, can only presume that the increase in voltage and amps "kick started" it into spinning over :nenau

Cheers

Yes I think the starter motor seems the most likely looks an difficult position to work on but might call to car parts place tomorrow and try changing it over the bank holiday

Have you tried looking on the Renault Forum, it's a dam good forum for info and as I think it's the 1.5dci engine you may get similar issues being reported.

Good Luck

Checked the obvious ?

Have you checked the battery terminals and the engine earth wire plus the ground of the battery to the chassis and of course the solenoid connections to the starter etc ?

Check how many volts are at the solenoid connection as well.

Injectors

Just had a friend look who's a DIY mechanic thinks it could be an injector so I'll perform a leak off test later on?

I would check the glow plugs first, one down will make it harder to start, would have thought if an injector was playing up you would have other symptoms, "leak off test"? do have an injector tester? Rick
