hi all,
just joined, but I come baggage (1 broken terrano,.)
thought i`d just say hello
any body any good with terrano`s (mine wont start)
I hope to get it going soon and maybe meet up with some other terrano sufferers!

Welcome mate, so how long has it not been starting, any changes that led up to it? is the plunger on the fuel filter hard, what fuel do you run on, any immobiliser problems etc, Rick

Hi and welcome to the club. My mav is a non starter at the moment too but after 14 years of relatively trouble free motoring I shouldn't complain :lol.

What are the symptoms of yours ? There's not much we can't answer on here.

Brian

hi,
thanks for replying to you all.
terrano been running great, went out monday morning unlocked with remaote, turned key , no glow plug light( but i thought hey its a warm day) engine turned over no start,
first ever its not started,
gave it some easy start goughed uo and ran for a few seconds,
tried again no start,
checked all fuses, all ok
turned ignition on all normal lights on dash but no glow plug or engine management light;
any thoughts ?

no engine management light or glow plug light when you turn ignition on.
its a 2.7 tdi running normal fuel

no engine management or glow plug light,
plunger on diesel filter ok

checked all relays, but why mo engine management light ?

i love caravans me ! just put solar on mine

As Zippy says, electrical...
The ECU controls the GP's so no engine management light possibly no power to ECU?
Fuse, ign sw, connector...
First, Verify you have power to the ECU and work from there.

Welcome to the forum.

Faulty ignition switch, try wiggling the key in the switch, and try again.

Best regards,

Rustic

found the ecu finally( passenger footwell not behind dash as per cd manual)
there must be fifty wires going yo that !
how can i tell if there`s power power to it ?

tried wriggling ignition key,
got dash board in bits !
checked for loose or damaged wires
was going to try shorting out the two pins on 14 pin diagnostic socket, to read fault codes , but no point if the engine management light not coming on ,
checked bulb in both lights on dash,
running out of ideas now

hi welcome to the club!

have you confirmed at least the bulbs work?

check the ignition switch - might be burning out

check the battery clamps for cracks and/or corrosion

check earth leads plus the smaller ones on the engine block near the dip stick

definitely check the glow plus and relay - it should at least tick a few times when ign is set to on....if it doesn't, you have an issue there or with earthing somewhere...also, check the negative battery lead that runs under the water bottle make sure thats not corroded.

also, check the starter motor cable is secure and working.

Stick with it , it will something simple. Mine has no dash lights but is cranking. Everything is pointing to a fault on the ignition switch. There's a multitude of push fit connectors on these cars so clean and check them all.

Brian

Ignition switch can be a bugger for this sort of nonesense. As your dash is apart take the bugger off and have a quick gander and spray switch cleaner in it. Sounds daft but worth pursuing
As far as the GP relay is concerned , did you check it's timer circuit too ?
Wires can corrode under neath it in that wonderful position Nissan stuck it in :doh

checked all them,
motor turn over nicely
new battery
will check all earth connections tomorrow

will have a good look at ignition sw tomorrow,
where is the timer control unit ?
mentions it in the online manual but all i can find is an abs timer
