Hello,

I already joined the forum some time ago but haven't been too active ;-) I just wanted to take the chance to introduce myself: my name is Joerg, 45 years old ... and I'm from Germany so I'm not a native English speaker ;-)

I bought an '97 Terrano II (actually a Ford Maverick) 2,4i 118hp 5 door ... with lots of rust - what I figured out some months ago. The Terrano was supposed to be a supplement to our "modern" cars ... to get the firewood and construction material home, take the dog for a ride ... Actually the Terrano turns out to be a new hobby - what I wanted to avoid. First of all was to buy a welding machine and to fix (most) of the common areas of rust (wings at the back, under the backset, front wing holder, sill ends).

Here's the whole story (in German) with lots of pics: http://www.offroad-forum.de/viewtopic.php?t=71338&highlight=

This winter I'm planning to get the front done ... most problematic parts will be the fenders ...

Regards
Joerg

Welcome, that's a tidy bit of project work and an even tidier pile of wood you've got.

Welcome, lots of people to help with advice on repairs here!

Welcome Joerg, wow that is a whole lot of work, well done and great effort.

That is some trailerful of wood.......

I am so glad I have a clean Terry...I couldn't cope with that amount of tin worm.....:doh

Hi and welcome mate, I see you have pics of most but not all of the places that rot, Rick

Welcome and what a great project you have, you have done very well :clap:clap

Take a look at my project, theres a link in my signature.

Hey Rick,

that's right ... but my wife forces me to do some homework and doesn't allow me to spend all of my time working at the car. Additionally I was kind of lazy with making pictures the last couple of months ...

Cheers,
Joerg

@All: Thanks for the warm welcome and your appreciation of my work. My neighbours are always astonished that cars can be repaired ... even welded ;-)

But I think it's definitely worth the effort ... it's the beloved vehicle of my wife, our dog (she LOVES driving around, espacially on the rear seat of the Maverick) and me, of course, although we also own two modern cars.

I joined this forum because there doesn't seem to be to much Terrano/Maverick drivers around in Germany, at least they don't post forums. I seems that I found a much better community here ;-)

Cheers
Joerg

They do say that it's the same reason we like riding motorcycles........as dogs love sticking their heads out of car windows........

Probably you'll have missed the funny part, as the ad is in German ... the ad says "doesn't look very beautiful, as it's a car used for hunting, but it's aboslutely rust free" ...

... after almost two years of fixing minor stuff and lots of welding (the first 20l bottle Sagox is almost empty and the 15kg welding wire has also been significantly reduced) I'm glad that I decided to buy a big bottle of gas, as the refill is almost the same regardless if 10l or 20l, and a "bigger" welding machine that can handle 15kg welding wire, as the price for 15kg is almost the same as for 5kg.

I guess if you buy a Terrano, first way with the new truck should be directed to the next store and get a good mig welding machine and 2m2 0,8mm iron plate ;-)
