Hello again, I know there are loads of people on here that run veg oil and I'd just like a little advice please...

I changed the fuel filter yesterday, engine is 2.7 Bosch, year 2000.

I have a new fuel filter waiting in the boot, nearly half a tank of diesel and 20ltrs of ktc to go in, is there anything I should do or need to know before I take the oily plunge??

Pour it into tank.

Save money, as a Yorkshireman you'll love that part!!

Enjoy the smell

Keep record of what you use, tax man can ask to see them

Message me if you need help or phone :)

Cheers mate, its in, the flying fryer is a go, bloody smells lovely :D

Can't argue with 68p a litre, put twenty litres in and went for a decent blast, might go get some more tomorrow. Its 40/60 mix, more diesel than oil, don't know how much I dare put in!

In the summer when it's hot, I go up to 40l veg to 30l diesel, but most of the year I stick to 20l veg to 50l diesel as I notice the car gets a bit sluggish on cold mornings if I go over.. best thing is to try it as you go, so put 20/50, then when you have used 20l of fuel, add 20l of veg, and see how it goes. If you add it like that you are then at 50/50%, but if you notice it is not happy, you only have to run for a bit, then refill with diesel to lower the mix.

Thanks, I'll keep adding a bit more, is there a limit you would recommend? Also, how often do you change your fuel filter?

I run 100% oil in summer
Drop to 50/50 winter.

Filter changed every 6 months or when struggling with power

t2 being new to oil it will clean all crap from tank etc so you will need more than 1 filter and tools to change it.good luck.

100%?! Thats encouraging, I took it for a good blast last night, going to have a drive today, it seems to like it so will prob put some more in to top the tank off.

My usual place is getting another three filters in today, I'll nip down and buy another, im just gonna keep changing it until clear, negates the saving a bit but has to be done

I've gone a bit extreme

I run 90% SVO and 10% Petrol/Diesel

I've removed the gauze filter in the bolt on the IP
Fitted a heat exchanger
& got this kit to fit at home just not got round to it yet

Hi banshee, ive read your threads on this before, its how I found out I even had a filter on ip lol, yeh that filter heater looks like a proper bargain, I have a big job coming up so when I get paid for that I think I will get one. That heat exchanger already been on your truck was a bonus eh?
Whats S in SVO stand for?

The way I did mine was I first added the veg oil a couple of weeks before I did a service, so changed the filter then, after that, I changed the filter again at the 6 month service, and now once a year.

You're almost set then matey!!! You're half way there

The exchanger already being their was a score!!! Just flushed it out good as the inlets and outlets didn't have any caps on and then hooked it up.

I'm going to be using the existing hose I fitted for the exchange and buying a "Y" Tee connector to hook up to the filter housing :naughty The hard work has all been done :thumb2

The "S" I believe stands for Straight, I just use to call is "fresh oil" until I joined vegetable oil diesel and SVO was the terminology they use and everyone else seems to :thumbs

Just remembered something else I've done as well

In the fuel tank, there's a swirl chamber that also has a very narrow orifice that can get blocked, the one on my Maverick was gunked up, I remove the swirl chamber and attached 2 lengths of pipe that lie on the bottom of the tank, even when going to extreme angles with the fuel light on I've yet to have it stall on me :thumb2

in tank only need to make suck pipe, the thicker one, long enough to reach bottom of tank as with no swirl unit fitted return pipe does not need to be extended.

under the boot right hand there is access to fuel tank sender.once undone there is a plug for electric and 2 fuel pipes.plug off and pipes off then lift out to access tank sender, the swirl chamber is on the out feed to car,the bigger one,the pickup can get blocked as small holes at bottom so if you take it off you need to make the feed a bit longer to tank bottom.
its use is pick up fuel and return fuel to chamber so as fuel heats up it goes back to engine and not to tank as its in chamber.also helps when low on fuel as it gets full during motion.

I've a heat exchanger fitted, but not plumbed in at moment.

It was. But had air getting in, now sorted. If not refitted. Just lazy!!

I've been running veg oil for a couple of days now, very lumpy on tickover from cold for first 4 seconds then fine, drives like a dream, pulls like a naked blonde and smells utterly divine :D
