Well, all being well I'll be picking up the new toy tomorrow (hope it goes ok,cos I'm quite excited now & it'll be a tenner wasted on the forum if it goes pear shaped!).

I've been hunting round for somewhere to get it serviced (previous owner said it was serviced last year but doesn't have details of what's been done when). Thus I want it to have a serious service before I put more than a handful of miles on it.
Nationwide Autos (you know the one the AA recommend) quote me around £220 (checked online) for a 'major service', I suspect this is just standard road car stuff & won't include diff oil, my local 4x4 specialist (mostly do Landies but some Jap stuff too) have quoted £255 including all fluids (diffs & gearbox).

Does this sound reasonable?
The vehicle's going to be a third car/runabout so I don't want to spend a kings ransome, but want peace of mind that she'll cope with whatever we need her for.

I'd love to potter round, take my time & try to do the job myself but real world..... .....well finding time is tricky & I want to be behind the wheel asap!

i get my " bits " off ebay, so i dont pay garages prices.

but thats sounds a fair price to me.

nice looking truck well come it this wondeful site dose not sound too bad a price for the service..... as long as they use good oil ect! i do mine myself as well, dont like some of the monkeys which work in some garages with their hands in my engine bay!!!! the storys i could tell with some of my trucks and garage services i be hear all night!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck with the new toy

Just make sure thgey use proiper LSD oil for the diff, nowt else will do. And enjoy the truck!!!

I'd say that is a pretty good price, as the other say, so long as they are using the correct oils, especially the LSD oil-I would check with them first, get them to tell you exactly what oils they will be using, and what filters, poor quality oil and fuel filters will give you trouble, as will the air filter if its not a good spec. I know this goes without saying, but best ask the questions before parting with the cash.

have a go - nothing too techy, i'm pants at mechanical stuff but have done my own servicing for last few years. nice to feel you've done a bit and piece of mind like Sid mentioned.
'cause they are quite high up you can crawl underneath without jacking up aswell :augie

get the oils in morning have it done by tea, out playing Sunday:clap:clap

Can't say your tenner will be wasted on this place, lots of advice and downloads in the workshop. Def worth getting a new motor serviced just to be safe and they are all correct about the quality bits and proper Limited Slip Diff Oil not gear oil with a bottle of additive. Also there's no timing belt to worry about as the 2.7 diesel is gear driven so rock solid. If your tempted to change any oils your self make sure that the filler plug is not stuck before you drain gearbox, diff or transfer box.

I've already had that conversation with them! I was concerned they wouldn't realise, what with much of their work being Landys.

Probably next time. Struggling to find time to breathe at the moment.... Normal story, work, young family etc. etc.

Now that sounds like very valuable advice! I'd probably not have thought of that till I came to (try &) remove the filler cap...

Well I got it Very pleased so far.
Didn't get as much chance to play with it yesterday as I'd have wanted, as my wife and one year old felt a little neglected when I got home, late afternoon.

Woke this morning to thick snow on the ground, looks like I'll get a chance to try the 4wd for real!!
