Hello folks I Have bought one Ive got a 51 plate swb terrano sport, i was really pleased until i kneeled in the boot and heard a crunching noise, hmmm i thought that dont sound to clever so i whipped up the boot carpet and was greeted with lots of rust / holes etc
i then decided to have a closer look underneath and found both rear footwells are knackered too i did'nt pay a great deal of attention when buying it as it has just had an MOT....:nenau

i have had a read through previous posts but cant really find owt can you buy replacement footwells and also a replacement boot floor or do any other models / manufactures fit:nenau

Where did you buy from?

Sounds in very bad rust condition if the boot floor has gone. I have just did my inside arches on my 98 maverick.

Did you buy it from a stealer ? Sounds like a dodgy MOT to me :( No panels available and I've seen some stinking rotten T2 , mine included, but those are strange rust points :nenau Was the truck owned by the coast guard or an airport company per chance?

Got any pics of the rot maybe able to help with used parts

Mine had to have lots of holes cut out and plates welded in the boot, especially where the metal plates overlap. Watch out for rust around the seat belt mounts where they bolt to the wheel arch, the bolt goes through to the outside of the wheel arch and lets water through .... rust rust rust

I had the off side rear inner wheel arch cut out and a new piece welded in last year, they seem to go where the wheel arch meets the sill.

Last weekend I found the near side was showing signs of going

I poked a hole through it and then saw rust creeping round the edge of the arch:( I then removed the plastic trim around the arch :eek::eek::eek:

All I can say is that it's a good job the arch trim is there - I think it's a case of the trim holding the wheel arch in shape rather than the arch holding the trim on !!

Hiya thanks for the replys it was a private sale, and if i am totaly honest i have made the holes worse some were still intact (just)i was only poking with my finger mind, because the rust points apear to be non structural does that mean they dont tend to prod about as much on the MOT,. the chassis rails both look real good its just the boot floor and the rear footwells where it bends up for the prop next to hand brake, i bloody hate rot its really put me off the terrano as i bought it also as a big safe bus to ferry my baby boy about and now it dont feel as safe knowing its like fred flintstones car.....

sounds bad - i hope you have a helpful local welder. if not, you have a friendly local breaker!

how goods the bodywork, interior, mechanics? a 51 sport is prob worth having welded up. as already said, check rear seat belt mounts - esp with young one.

TBH that sucks mate, u must be unlucky :(

I have a 51 plate sport and its 99% rot free, was some surface on front and rear arches but i ground it back to shiny and primered/waxoyled

boot floor has a couple of spots like 5p big on seams, but is solid as hell. I think i'd need to drop fuel tank to investigate this further ... so if its took 10 years to get that bad, it can wait another 10 ;)

I'm a bit gutted myself, the bodywork is pretty spot on just a few little scratches no rust at all as is the interior just a little splitting on drivers leather seat apart from that all good and what with the full MOT i did'nt look as hard at the underneath as i perhaps should have done:doh, live and learn eh....

will have a better look at it when i dont feel as sorry for myself....:lol

If I recall from earlier threads, I think the boot area is double skinned and collects water if drains are blocked.
The area might also retain road salt from the winter, or from crossing causeways out at sea:doh. Has the truck been used for sea launching of boats?
The rear door seals can also let water in and make the carpet wet.

Your best option might be to angle grind out a rear floor from a scrappie, and weld in this one as a last resort.

One of the reasons i got rid of my 51 plate sport.constant rust coming thro sills.under floor was spot on. inner rear wing panels behind back bumper are a rubber plug. i removed to re seat and the panels collapsed with rust.back end of chassis lots of rust but i treated and waxoyled.i had some spots of bubbly rust under boot carpet.but when i replaced fuel tank underside was like new again undersealed whilst tank was off.now my 96 just had its first bit of welding but nothing else to worry about.
