whatever you do, tell us all about it, with photo's! :thumb2

This has been an interesting topic that, to be fair, should have had it's own thread as it has distracted from yours considerably:thumb2

Agreed, although it has been interesting, however I will now try and get back on track, this picture shows what I have done to try and stop what you will see in the next post, Rick

not too bothered about the dent in the door as such but it stops the window operating and that can be bad news, the window is an escape route, Rick

all I have to do tomorrow is swap the wheels over and swap the front diff for this one that is locked permanently, makes a big difference, Rick

Rick I think you'll find winching and diesel engine work better together as the old oil burner needs no oomph to keep it going.I've winched for hours with the engine running and not an issue :thumbs

never had a problem with the petrol till I filled the sump with water:doh but having driven this new diesel lump up the lane again today (with a working crank sensor from cncfabs) it does not have the very low rev torque the petrol has, could be to do with the fact it is running on chip fat, but no time now to change that before Sunday, so we will see, proof is in the pudding so to speak, watch this space Sunday evening, Rick,,,,,,just had a thought, as it has done no running since battery off and new crank sensor it will need to learn the new settings so time will tell

and on a long winch operation the engine almost died due to lack of voltage so had to stop for a while to recharge,

I meant the old chip fat burner will keep running with very very little power requirments, where as the petrol will need more power for coil packs etc.

Ah yes get your point at last, I am getting slow these days, and I slipped up badly on the winch, great winch don't get me wrong but the wire rope!!!! having done a test winch today, it is so springy soon as you put the drum in out of gear it unwinds like clock spring, gonna have to get some of this dymeena stuff but I will have to make do this weekend, just no time and I thought that at retirement there would be loads:doh, Rick

It gets less springy once you've pulled it in and out a bit more :lol oo er missus :lol

Well folks, got it finished tonight, front diff changed wheels changed put thinner winch cable on cos could not be having with the thick springy stuff , engine bay blanked with original rubber plastic panels and foam filler, jacked up front suspension, no time to put LWB springs on rear, so all ready for Slindon tomorrow, so will let you all know how it performs, Rick

Enjoy mate :D I'm stuck till tuesday for MOT but will have to be out on Wed. :naughty

Come along nicely rick, Hope you don't get any issues and i think you will prefer the diesel offroad.

Christened it today my mate Terry got it stuck here, wheels off the ground, quick winch off, must say it performed very well, the lack of grunt under 1000 revs did not prove to be a big issue just different driving technique and when it did come in with more revs I was backing off a bit to control excess wheel spin, the fans and rad worked really well high speed did not come in at all so sound levels are very good, my only grouse was the fan motor is naff and with the rain it was hard to keep the screen clear, Rick

Looks muddy as hell ! Serious but of kit tho mate :)

we had a really good day although the heavy rain was a bit disappointing, as for the motor time will tell but seems good at this time, Rick

Got my new Dymeena winch rope today, must say it looks and feels like ordinary rope, so hope it does what it says on the tin, but will take my wire rope just in case, fitted replacement heater fan motor, so will be able to see through the windscreen if it rains on Sunday, fitted LWB springs to rear, and wound up fronts to the limit without re indexing, which I will probably need to do later, also fitted under bonnet air cleaner, to make intake a little quieter, so Sunday at Boxgrove pit it is, let you all know how it goes later, Rick
