I Know a lot of members on here also have motorcycles and come over here on holidays, weekends over the summer. So I thought I would just mention the new regs which came in to force in 1st January so you don't get caught out.:

1: Riders and pillions must carry a hi vis vest and it must be accessible while you are sat on the seat, no refiling through your top box to find it .

2: Helmets must carry 4 reflective stickers, one back and front and one on each side .At the moment I think this only strictly applys to helmets bought in France but it is a EU law so police may still stop and try to fine you for it.

I get the reflectors, and the hi vis but why must it be accessible while sat on the machine?

Because that way it basically encourages you to wear it all the time then... proves you have ant is to hand without the police stipping you... quite a clever way of doing it really...

As a 4x4responder we have to keep our vest to hand at all times, but easier in a car, but basically it either lives in to pocket behind the seat, or many make it so the back rest of the seat is wearing it.

Yeh seems very silly, they should just make a law saying you have to wear one if they are that bothered.

In 2012 the french government came up with the idea that all motorcyclists should wear at least 150cm2 of reflective material on there clothing, between the head and the waist. This had to be part of the garment not arm bands etc.
As you can imagine this caused uproar in the French biking groups, the though of having to sow bits of it on to there leathers and waterproofs!! or buy new ones!! So after much protest it was abolished. the new laws are a way of getting riders to carry reflective items with them but not necessarily wear them all the time.
Pleasing both the road safety groups and the bikers.

Ah, but this is France, that would be far too sensible.

I have just returned from my first longer ride of the year, bikes everywhere, no hiviz/reflective anywhere, and if you are not supposed to necessarily wear it whilst riding, but must have it accessible from the saddle, where the hell do you store it..........I ride a fairly bare bones Harley, with no storage forrad. ...........:nenau

They have a habit of making bad law in France........

Exactly! that's their idea, better just to wear it then no need to stop you to check. That's why you see lots of French cars with the vest over the back of the seat in plain view.

Just purchased a new lid over here, and it came complete with refective stickers, I was told by the Moto shop, that they MUST be placed on the lid , even giving you a drawing of correct positions.......I think they mean it....:bow

jonela be carefull, before long you will have to report to a government office to prove you have wiped yer bum correctly :lol

I like france, I like their nuclear power policy especially, but the hi vis thing is just micro management!

There are lots of thing here you could do without, but also lots of good things ,like the health care here. Funny you should mention poo! I just did my second test for colon cancer, known as poo sticks here, they do it every two years once your 50 in the UK its 60.
I know when thing like this come in there is always decent and people saying how redicules it is and infringes on our freedoms etc. I am old enough to remember the helmet law coming in and it was the same then! how many of us now would consider riding without a helmet

The real problem I have with wearing hiviz all the time is, that it hides all the black, brooding looks of my rather YMCA riding gear on the Harley...........:sly
