Hi all,

Just joined after a glowing recommendation from Banshee who I met through Ebay, here is my 1996 Maverick, bought for £250, it was on it's way to the scrap yard with no drive and a rough running problem.

So a visit to Milner in Matlock for a clutch kit and mega cheap filters etc and after a few silly quotes of £100 + from Nissan dealers for a timing cover mounted crank sensor I bought one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A3-A...rts_SM&fits=Car+Make:Audi&hash=item4855efa97f

Made a spacer and it is still working perfectly now.

After owning the Mav for approx. 8 months it was time for a MOT, so decided to give it a quick check over.

First I removed the rear carpet to see a BIG hole in the floor then started to look further, both front chassis to body mounts were rotten, holes in front inner wings, hole in drivers floor pan, rust on all bodywork seams under all arches, patched holes in outer sills, holes in rear wells and seat belt mounts and inner rear arches and rotten radiator cross member mount - Oh dear it's decision time :doh

After my 8 months of ownership and the initial fitment of a new clutch plus the very addictive smell of SVO I decided to pimp my ride.

Started with fabricating 2 front body to chassis mounts, box section rad mount and under tray, replaced sills with 80x40mm box section and a 36mm tube to roll the outer sill around, removed lots of other rotten stuff and replaced with new metal, bought a set of 4 chrome modular wheels for £50 that were shot blasted then black enamelled, and painted all that chrome in matt black, vinyl wrapped the bottom of the car and added a few vinyl stripes.

A mate gave me two Scooby STI seats so made brackets to suit.

When I replaced the rear floor section I cut the whole lot out and welded in a 40x40mm angle iron frame then made a 3/4" ply door with stainless steel plate fascia on hinges so I can easily work on the rear of the vehicle from inside (or use it as an escape hatch)

I am not into off roading the car is needed to tow trailers so no lift kit or mud tyres are fitted, the wheel arch extensions are cut from a lorry mudguard found on the side of the A512.

Here are a few pics, it should last me for years now, it handles surprisingly well with the low height and wider track on the Maxxis and Synchrone 255-65-16 tyres.
Would like one of those Tunit units for a bit more power and possibly a standard rear spoiler - that's it then hopefully for a while.

The cut off snorkel looks 'cool', but you a probably no better off than with the original set up :clap

I have no idea what this is actually off and was going to use the full snorkel assembly but the fit up the door pillar was terrible, it's all sealed off inside so probably gained around 10 inches of extra wading depth (that I will never need)

Looks good , your front bumper is exactly how I was planning to do mine. :thumbsup

Only no holes . Have to keep the mud out :lol

Dam that maverick is awesome, love the colours, I've been thinking of painting mine matte black :naughty

Think I might borrow some of you're mods!

It's a small world aint' it guys lol

I met revolver through eBay as I brought an old Army Shell Case to use as a storage box in the back of the Mav, I turned up at his house and his son was there to meet me to give me the box and got really excited when he saw my truck and said "my dad would be so excited to meet you"

He told me that his dads truck would only be round the corner as he was at the 9pm showing of World War Z round the corner at the local Odeon and after his sons description of the truck, I had to go and find this car!!!!

Pulled into the car park and it wasn't long before I found what I was looking for

Hi Banshee,
It's a good job that I was already in the Odeon, I fear the wife would have gone in on her own if we had met before the start.

My son "Harry" tells me you run SVO, do you run twin tanks or a heat exchanger etc ?

Currently mixing mine approx. 80% SVO 20% Diesel in summer, might do some fuel mods when it gets colder.

Thanks for suggesting the forum membership, it's nice using the search facility and finding answers to things I don't know, wealth of information on here, some clever folk........

Hahaha tell me about it, I dread to think what time I would have got home lol

I use SVO and WVO, whatever is in ready supply lol and no mods at all to the car :)

At the moment I'm using WVO that I'm picking up for 25p a litre, I'm filtering that through a 1 Micron Filter Sock from here;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/18-1-MICR...170?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27d3a2cbfa

That then filters into a Plastic 72 litre blue drum that has a water butt tap fitted at the bottom a few inches up, that means any crud that does "slip the net" sediments at the bottom which I do a clean out of from time to time, that then gets tapped out into another 72 litre drum that has 2 of these dangling in the bottom either side;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270793897546

Leave those going for about an hour to let any water in the oil that has developed from the cooking process evaporate and then let that cool overnight

Tap off into 5 litre containers when cool and pour into the car as and when needed adding 1 cap full of this per 10 litres that went into the car;

I've been using 100% WVO over the summer replacing the Fuel Filter every few months :)

When it gets cold I only run SVO with about 10-15 litres of Diesel in :)

Unbelievable!!!! You've been here 5 mins and already you've mastered the Search facility :lol:lol

I still can't get answers from that lol

Make sure you take full advantage of the Workshop Manuals as well :)

Good work there mate, like your ideas :thumbs
Crank sensor was a steal, I'm logging that one :clap
Now then for a tasty rear spoiler (well I think so) get yourself down the scrappy again and liberate the roof spoiler off a Pajero.
They're easy to , erm, get off :augie plastic cover on the top and screws into the roof.
Newer ones have hi-level LED brake lights too.

wow, looks great!!
as said, the crank sensor is a very good idea as they are silly money :thumbs

Tell us more about the crank sensor. Is this the same CPS that seems to be a common problem? What do you mean when you made a spacer?

I guess the one listed has a longer snout, so a quick spacer to stop it hitting the timing marker :thumbs

Hmm, now I wonder who could have one of them sitting on his non-running SWB Shogun while it waits for him to get his act together and get it to the breakers... :augie
