hi chaps, I want a new key. I only have one, so I have purchased a new fob to transfer the internals to - hopefully this will sort the remote central locking.

I want a spare key as well, how do I go about it and how much can I do myself? :thumbs

ok, so the internals of my existing key have been eaten by a dog it would appear, so they don't work.

where do I get a new key fob from, and can I program it to the car myself?

someone on here bought some new flip type key fobs ... the type where the key flips out ...... not sure who tho .....but they transplanted a sender unit I think

useful link, but seems there are different types of key.. I need a full new key and transponder, and I need to be able to program it myself.

ok, I found instructions, looks like I can re program the key/transponder if I buy a used one from ebay, so I have some on watch.

You can program the remote locking yourself - siemens radio unit. That is easy enough. The transponder is different and will have to be "copied" by a locksmith. Expect to pay between £30-£50 for key coding.

What type of key is it Clive, my old 2001 terry had a rubber faced key.
My 2005 has a 2 button key (no rubber cover)
When we got the 05, it came with one key, I bought a second hand one from ebay..all the same numbers and markings, but the transponder was different.
My mate (auto elec) tried to set it up, but it would not work on the ignition, I had to get a new body from the dealers in the end and then my mate was able to programme it to the car.

well, its sort of rounded, with rubber covers on the buttons, like this:

mines an 03 plate, so again I am very unsure of how this will pan out but I am prepared to go to the dealers if needs be for a new key?

when I was sorting my flip keys out I went to a key cutter in Halifax market. He said he would copy the transponder in my master key. He must have some blank transponders that can be programmed. Did'nt ask how much :doh
So no need to go to the dealers. Like you Clivvy I'm looking out for a key on eBay for the insides so I can get a spare sorted.

Don't bother with a key, just point the dog and squeeze :)

The same seller has the ID60 chips but I think he has listed them as '4D60'. I have messaged him. If they are ID60 chips for 2002 -> Terranos then its only a £5er extra
