New Clutch

my MOT is due early next year, mid feb I think. I plan to have the clutch done, so its one less worry. Can anyone recommend a good quality clutch, and supplier, and possibly even a fitter? If the MOT goes ok, ill be booking it straight in for the clutch doing.

I agree with your strategy, when mine passes it gets new tyres, gear oil and fluid changes etc.
Reduces the financial layout in case you need some MOT work done.

Don't know any good clutch places over your way, but several members have had theirs done recently.
Clutches on these are quite expensive due to 7-8 hours labour.

118k on the clock, and soemtimes it sounds like its slipping. always 3rd accelerate to 4th (well, not ALWAYS, but certainly recently) plus theother day, i had to reverse back out of a steep hill, was almost like i couldnt let the clutch out and it made a strained noise....might hav ejust been me simply NOT letting the clutch out though,,,plus id rather have it done before it goes!!

OK go out to the motor start it up select 5th put the go faster pedal to the floor slide your foot off the clutch, (drop it) what happens? Rick

ok, did that, shuddered a bit, moved forward a tiny bit then stalled (i had the handbrake on, but the handbrake isnt great)

aye jim, and its very much appreciated too, great set of people on here.

as for the welding, yup, Martin has offered to do it for me in January. The main bit is just the seatbelt mount drivers side rear, so its nice and easy. Im going to let Martin have a look at my sill repair job, and if worthwhile, have that re plated at the same time, then its done and out of the way.

so the plan is this:

welding
MOT
clutch

and with luck, the MOT costs will be minimal, but im expecting something, certianly the front suspension as that was an advisory (rubber)

then your clutch is perfect, why do you want to change it? Rick

I fitted a new clutch when I rebuilt my engine and it slipped a few times when first used to begin with, as I hadn't adjusted the clutch cable at the pedal correctly.Pretty sure I didn't leave enough slack in the cable so infact the clutch was starting to work when it shouldn't have been when driving.Could you let the cable off a little on the adjuster nut on the peddle.......just thought it was worth a try.

if its perfect, i dont want to replace it, i wonder if its just some adjustment, or me just not driving it right?! i tell you what I do a lot, I dont let the clutch out very quick, especially when reversing, it sjust so different to my mazdas. Is it correct, to just let the clutch out quick?

i did wonder. I know nothing of clutches, but ill look into your suggestion, perhaps thats it, some adjustment or even fluid needs looking at...?
