Varta is a good mid-range battery.....95Ah and 800 cranking amps or thereabouts.

if you are thinking about buying online be carefull, i bought one from a well known online supplier and 13 months down its nearly knackered. i had 4 year warranty and quess what ive got to go to a garage and get a written report about the car and battery before they will do anything about it, i know car charging ok as ive tested it, and even removed battery from car but still battery only reads 12.2 volt after a full charge and a 12 hour stand. Best to buy locally!!!!!!!!!!!!.its only the cold weather that i notices how sluggish it was.

My battery really struggling to start the Mav this morning, despite the warm garage, clearly it won't start it if left outside, so time for a new battery.
My last one was platinum model 334P, 95 Ah, 850 CCA and has been fantastic, so I am after another so any ideas guys, I will look at the Alpha batteries, but who was the not so good well known supplier then?

I will try my local Motormania, as well.

Best regards, Rustic

I have just replaced the battery on my truck too :(:(:( Just gave up one morning (only about -7 degrees) and that was it! After much looking about managed to get a huge EXIDE super dooper all singing and dancing high power jobby from Euro car parts. Tried Halfrauds and local shops but all wanted £110+:eek::eek:... guess the price you pay for a fereezing day and a flat battery??... Got mine for £84 all in... not the cheapest BUT was stuck and their shop is only a short way aways.... so all in all not too bad as I needed one :)

So which are the best batteries for a 2.7 TD then

Yuassa
Bosch
Varta,
It needs to be a bottom clamp version.
Thanks, Rustic

i would avoid the cheaper ones if you are going to do a bit of off roading if not then the cheap ones are fine

I think I have just answered my own question..
I have rung a local company and I can get a Yuassa 334 95Ah 700CCA

For....... £60 + VAT OR £70.50

Now this MUST be the cheapest ever, and I only have to drive a few miles to pick it up..

To test the current battry, I put the headlights on etc estimate it was drawing 35 Amps, left it on too long though,:eek: after 40 minutes the headlamps were only glowing, so I put my big charger on, it took 20 Amps for 1 minute and has now settled to 12 amps and a voltage of 13.3, so the battery is truely..... worn out.
If it wasn't IT IS NOW :doh

So later I will go and collect the battery, if the mav will now start....:nenau
I'll leave it a couple of hours to charge, and the charger is a starter charger, so should be ok.

When some tasks seem a good idea at the time.
The alternator is working ok.

Well fitted the Yuassa, plenty of power now, the old battery was nearly 7 years old, not bad for a 2.7TD.they had date stamped it 409, which means 9th week of 2004, feb 2004,
I think I was due a new one

Contact details for my Yuassa battery supplier in the West Midlands / South Staffs.

Motolek, Linden Road, Brownhills, Phone number 01543 453350.
They also test/repair alternators and starter motors, sometimes while you wait.

Maverick / Terrano battery £60 + VAT they also have loads of car batteries on the shelf. And they take credit card.:thumb2

For an estimate of the price, say,...look at Halfords prices, then halve them then add VAT and you wlll see what a good deal they are.. and they are a good make, Yuassa....
The yuassa is much heavier than the old battery..

Tip, to save loosing your memory codes and alarm/radio codes, I drilled a small hole in each battery terminal connector, (not the battery) and fitted a self tap screw in it and attached a cable to another battery with a 15 Amp fuse, just in case I dropped the positive terminal.
Undo the -ve first, then the positive, I put the positive terminal in a thick plastic jiffy bag.
Remove and replace the battery, attach +ve terminal first then -ve then disconnected the other battery, and all working ok. Simples...
No memory loss.... at least I don't think so.... I can't remember...

Best regards, Rustic.
