New 4x4 owner - any mods needed for green lanes?

I have just purchased my first 4x4 a 2003 Nissan Terrano 3.0 Sport.
I am in the process of chainging all the oils and filters and fitting some All Terrain tyres, but just wanted to know if I should be doing anything else before I try some gentle green lanes?
I will use the car everyday so dont want to go too mad, oh and if anyone knows of any groups around the peterborough area I could join for my first adventure that would be great.

Depends what lanes ...

Some are basically gravel tracks you could drove a ford focus down, but some u need 2" lift 31" tyres and a snorkel for, like this :

You say you're getting tyres ? Well I'd get bigger ones for starters

What size alloys are u on ?

I'd be looking for some shogun steel rims 7x15 and get some 31 10.5 15 tyres

Remove your rear anti roll bar, make sure your front arb links and bushes are good first tho, removing rear has no negligible effect on road driving but makes streets of difference offroad as your axle will have twice as much travel/articulation

Snorkel is an essential mod for piece of mind, and safety of your engine when wading as you may not know how deep water is

The biggest hindrence on rutted tracks is your diff
No amount of body or chassis lift will fix that on it's own.
The only way to get your diff out of the mud is to fit bigger tyres :sly that ofcourse means a susp lift or body lift.:thumbs

Yes but being ifs and not having a front diff in the shit, I found the biggest hinderance on ruts was front cross member which was fine after 2" lift

I also find these landy boys getting stuck on ruts with 33's that I don't struggle with on 31's as no front diff so my front end pulls the rear through, and just 1 rear diff dragging is much better for momentum than both diffs beached and coming to a stop

Thanks for the help guys, I have the factory standard 17inch alloys fitted at present, and think I will try some easy off road at first to gain some driving experience and also to ensure I dont damage the vehicle.
But looking at some of the pictures im sure it wont be long before I am ticking off all the mods listed and having a great time.

Well, pruned my rear bumper on mine and it makes a difference, doesn't smash off rocks and gives a better departure angle:thumb2

Wouldnt worry to mch about mods, you want to try the stock truck first then if get
the bug start uprating.

Ive lane most of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire in stock lwb terranos and a patrol
with at best all terrain tyres. These trucks will go a lot further than you would expect
in just 4 low, thanks to the LSD in rear axle.

If you have a towbar either remove it for lanes, though I never have, 6 bolts, but
would look at getting towing electrics higher up out of way of wet.

Dont go alone, unsure of clubs local to you though sure we have members in the are
that will be along soon.

Well it took longer that expected due to fuel tank leaks and heater matrix repair but finally got to drive a green lane on saturday, and i must say it was great fun and I very much have the bug now. A mate at work took me around some lanes near Yarwell and the Terrano did very well, even my mate was surprised since I only had road tyres on the front and also think he was secretly hoping to use his new winch. I kept up with his Defender 110 without any problems.
Will get some AT's fitted on the front, and underseal this weekend then I am all ready for another trip out.
