I wouldn't have thought the buyer I had lined up was any part of the scam as he came via here. It's a friend of Madmark called Ed.
I spoke to Ed White prior to agreeing to take back the terrano and he was absolutely keen. We went through everything I knew (and have now been told) is wrong with it and he was still keen, otherwise I would've gone back to the buyer and told him to stick it.

My main reservation about doing so was that the MoT tester could well have some busy body crawling over his workshop and that might upset him when I need future work doing.

If buy some means you end up with it back I text you about it on gumtree and my mate is ready to come down and buy it for £500 bud my mobile is 07769154840

I tried contacting Ed once I collected it and nothing. No reply to emails, texts and voice mails with the phone going straight to answer phone. I contacted Madmark and he suggested Ed's got something else so to put it on eBay.

I have read engine codes and I have 12 - MAF, 34 - Needle lift sensor and 47 - Crank Position sensor

Prior to selling the car I had no fault codes, so it may well be that the chap has swapped these out. Should that be the case I'll have a good look at the area to see if there's any evidence of tampering/removal. If I feel he's swapped out components I'll contact the police and report him. It seems unlikely all these components would fail at the same time.

Well you should be able to see if those parts have been tampered with. Im sure there was a member on here that found a cheap alternative for the ckp sensor. The lift sensor is usually number 1 injector I think and is an expensive part. You could simply spray some contact cleaner on the maf before replacing the whole item.

I'll be having a very close look tomorrow at those parts. A MAF is only £20 or so, UJ £25ish. But then if I can see he's swapped them out I'll not contact him, I'll just turn up at his house with the police and have him arrested for fraud, no skin off my nose.
Would've been happy to have had the car back if it was just the fault's he'd mentioned, but if he's scamming me he'll soon be very sorry.
 
if you can get a maf for £20 please do not bother, it will be rubbish, the cheapest reliable one will be £70 plus and not Nissan badged, if you want the info I will have to look it up but it has been on here so a search may sort it, Rick
 
I'll check the car over again tomorrow before looking at getting any parts, no point spending money if I just get the guy arrested and take back my £500. If anything's a miss I won't be ordering anything, just turning up on this chaps doorstep with the plod.

The issues he's been stating with track rod ends, steering rods etc aren't anything I can't sort out. Changing MAF's, Crank Sensors etc is easy enough. But if he's actually swapped them out then I'll just get my money back from him and see him prosecuted.
 
I'm sorry and I really don't want to upset you but I really can not imagine that you'll be able to get any money back off him or that the police would be remotely interested. I think this may be a very bitter pill to swallow. I think that boat may have already sailed.

May be it would be a good idea to take it to a garage and let them inspect the vehicle. It may just be in a bad condition and cost far too much to make it worth while. Imagine how bad you would feel if there was an accident where somebody was injured or worse.

Sleep on it and think about getting it inspected for your own peace of mind.

All the very best with the car and I really hope you get sorted out as soon as you can.
 
Well, just got off the phone with Action Fraud and citizens advice. Also have had it reported to the local constabulary as this may be a crime this chap is happy to commit time after time, doing up cars by sourcing components in this manner and selling them on when otherwise it would not be economical to repair them.
Will see what they can do.

Might take a look and see if there's a local breakers who I could source parts from on the cheap. I could use a towing vehicle and have the cash to keep it as a toy now owing to a new job. Seems a shame to scrap it anyway, although I could stick it on eBay for parts.

There was a list or parts that needed to be replaced which included:

O/S Track Rod End
N/S Drag Link (worn centre)
Link bar boot broken
Rear Prop Shaft UJ U/S Worn
Front O/S Anti-roll bar drop link bush missing. I actually replaced these little while ago, but maybe the hole is elongated and has chewed it up? guess I'll replace again with an oversize washer over the hole.

I have some friends in a garage that rebuilt the front subframe of my Skoda Fabia a while ago for buttons, so will just source the parts and get this done if I don't get my money refunded.

Does also mean I'll need to look at replacing the MAF, Crank Position Sensor and Injector Needle Lift Sensor. Any pointers on sourcing them from somewhere that won't break the bank welcome. MAF and CPS seem easy enough to swap out.
Seems like the Injector Needle lift sensor is part of No1 injector and a matter of removing the whole thing to swap it out? Could a secondhand unit be worthwhile, rather than £180 for new? This chap obviously thought so by stealing mine anyway.

I'll keep you informed of the legal response. I would publish the guys name on here to prevent anyone else being had, but I'm sure you're all too shrewd to be caught out by the same scam.
 
I don't think he is scamming like that, He just bought a motor and a few things went wrong with it (it happens).

Also maybe didn't like the ride of the terrano or maybe found a better example?
 
I've found a chap not far away who's got a terrano to break and had recently replaced the injectors Maf etc. I can have the No1 Injector for £50 plus crank and Maf for cheap. Might get some other bits and then get the front end sorted so I have a working tow vehicle.

I find it too much of a coincidence that 3 weeks ago I didn't have any fault codes and now I have 3 separate electronic failures. That's why I say scam.

Not a major problem, just means I'll be back on the forum and technical section whilst I get it repaired as a toy.
 
did you sign the logbook over , and same when you got it back ? ..... or you might find a few parking tickets etc in the post .

Spoke to the DVLA and they're happy to accept a a letter with it should i sell it confirming dates he had it. Any tickets etc issued and I'll send a copy of the completed log book with his details on it.

I didn't actually send the V5 off as I didn't get round to it, so I have it with his details on.

There appears to be a large crack/split on this piece, so might need to get this welded up or replaced. Perhaps this is what upset the other chaps mechanic.

Anyone know the best way to get this sorted? and anyone in/near bristol/axbridge that could do the work?

On the top picture it looks like there is a crack between where the single bolt passes through the lower arm and the two bolts to the right of it.
The nearside certainly doesn't have this large split.
Are you sure it's nothing to worry about? don't want the front wheel falling off or anything.

the two bolt part is the tie bar from both sides, the single bolt is your suspension pivot for the bottom wishbone, it has to move or you would be rock solid on your front suspension, Rick
 
Just be aware when a friend tried removing my rear propshaft from the rear diff it dribbled oil so I'm guessing when fully removed oil will pour out so get some lsd oil and drain the rear diff before removing the shaft.
 
Maybe the picture of the area's not clear enough. You can see the rounded end of the lower arm, just to the right of this there's a crack through the entire frame to the left of the bolts from the tie bar.
You can see at the bottom of the frame.
if you click on the image you should be able to zoom in on the area and see what I mean. If not I'll get out tomorrow and take some better pictures.

I'll get some LSD oil then. I have no idea when the fluids (other than coolant, and oil) were last changed any way.
 
OK wait for better pic, but could not see anything bad in you other pics, Rick
