So, after reading the positive sounding thread about duplicate keys I trot off to the key place near me to see if they can clone my one good key. 'No way mate' says the guy, 'that's a crypto key innit'.
Apparently my car must've been one of the first (late 98?) to have the rolling code added to the ignition system.

I have to take the car, my one good key and £42 quid to a key place out of town and hopefully they'll be able to sort it tomorrow afternoon.......

What a pain! Still, can't be trusted with only one good key so needs must.

Can anyone confirm that this crypto nonsense is correct?

timpsons done my 98 mav key £15 i think it was they put it into reader which read my key and wrote encryption to there key all done in 10mins by kidve about 18!

well, thats my query. Mine is one of the first new shape, and must only just be a 98 - i saw the machine they put the key in and it said it couldnt do it, took it to timpsons and their machine said the same - rolling code needs input to the car to make it work.
Anyone with a 99 or later who has had to do this?

thats a bummer mate i went to ford first they didnt now what maverick was lol nissan wanted it booked in at at least 3 hrs labour chuff that i thought tried timpson an jobs a good un!

Bloomin Navaras count yourselves lucky!

Sometimes I think car security has made life harder rather than more secure - I bet the theives still find a way to bypass all this security. I remember my old metro - new lock and key to go in it was 8 quid. So easy to bypass though I gave up buying them in the end :)

think uk ones have same imboliser setup mine had aftermarket one fitted but i drowned it in floods as it was in the footwell to side pedals had water in over pedals so it went up swanny!

unfortunatley quarryman when this subject came about last time and jace said he had been to timpsons so like you off I trots to the local sainsbuggers where theres a timpsons only to hear "sorry mate it's rolling number change   " oh dear what a pity say I  I made enquirires at Nissan in Cambridge no problem £32.00 and they need the casr for a couple of hours  . then what happens blown the car up so now Idon't need a key

hi m8 needed a new key for mine so after a few rings round local car shops without any results booked it in at local Nissan garage cost me £40 including the vat took Le's than a hour waited in the showroom

northwest key supplies are doing it when I can get the damn thing moving (new battery etc) for 42 quid in twenty mins while i wait. cant say fairer than that if it works.

Update!!!
Just got back from Northwest Key supplies, and they have a 'secret' system that can code crypto keys without programming in the car. £22!!!
speechless.

AND it works.....
