We have just got back from the hospital. Her right foot is the worst where it was trapped in the pedals, she has broken metatarsals. Her other ankle and leg is badly bruised and her upper body has muscle strains a bit like whip lash.
I sent a photo to a friend who does recovery and he says if it had of been an ordinary car with that kind of impact the outcome would have been totally different. Tired now but when I get chance I will post some photos.

She is gutted to loose her Terrano
Hi Jim,

Only just read this post hope your Wife recovers OK.

ted

PS We tend to use our Jeep for most journeys in the hope it's more survivable than a normal car.

Wishing your other half a speedy recovery:thumb2

Bloody Hell!!!!   :( :( :(

I hope things straighten out fast for you Jim, stuff the truck, make sure the misses is OK that's the main thing.

You seem to be having as much bad luck as me lately, not that its a competition, what have we done wrong!?!?! :(

Hopefully the new year will be better pal!!!

Thanks for the support guys I really appreciate it and I've passed them on to Mrs t. She's very sore today but safe. First impressions from insurance company are 50 50 which I believe is knock for knock which we are going to fight like hell. As you'll see from the photo the car is well over to the left and clearly not moved since impact. Even now I cannot believe what has happened and how close I came to losing my wife. Sure the car is valueless but we are both gutted as we have had it since 2002.

Look carefully and in my shadow is the remains of the other cars drivers side wheel and suspension. The brake disk was shattered and I've never seen a disk shatter before.

I have had issues in the past with Insurance companies trying to go the easy route and give blame 50/50 and have always fought the case if I was in the right.

One Joker tried to blame the wife when he pulled out of a side road on a four lane two way road to turn right with his view completely blocked by a bus and hit the nearside rear of the wife's car as she passed the slow moving bus ! In this case and previous cases I have taken photographs of the scene and of the view afforded to drivers.

Knock for knock does not really affect you as this is an inter insurance agreement where companies do not claim off one another quite separate I believe from any blame split.

And this is what the scene looked like. Very scary. It'll be interesting to see what you guys think of it.

Jim, I know the exact spot. Right next to the farm.
Has the other driver come from the junction on the left?
You have to swing out wide to get around the tight corner on the junction.
I travel that road 4 times a day on average. I have seen a lot of accidents along that road.

Jim. Your wife is ok (so to speak). The truck can be replaced.

Treat her like a princess whilst she's in recovery & please give her my regards :thumb2 :thumb2

No the car didn't come out of the junction it was coming straight on the main rd towards Huddersfield

A bit of T-cut will see that alright!
That's an impact and I think your Mrs is lucky she was in such a tank. I stuffed a Mkii Escort at 60mphish (officer) and did less damage than that.

hope your wife makes a good recovery i was hit last year by a dutch driver in my village his insurance company tried the 50 /50 approach even after originally saying it was my fault he was parked on a nearside grass verge he pulled out into my path from my left with no indication and admitted it was his fault at the time as he forgot to check behind him i could not avoid hitting his volvo as i had a tipper lorry coming the other way after much time pursuing his insurance they have finally admitted it was his fault and now going to pay me all i have claimed for and my no claims bonus would no be affected as has been said before they like the easy way out :thumb2

Lucky I got a lap top so could turn it on its side:) , clearly the other driver was over the double white lines, so without question in the wrong, fight that 50/50 bit all the way, send em a copy of that pic, Rick

Hi mate,
Hope the shock of it all has subsided a little now.
If you are going to fight it, may be worth checking if the other car had a EDR fitted, lots of modern cars do these days but not always known about.
Check out the link.

Well there is a local councillor got in on the case now. She is a driving instructor and also a senior member of BRAKE a road safety organisation. Cant really say lot more until she has seen the photos but it is sounding like she is on our side.

I copied that pic and looked at it in more detail the right way up, be interested to know if your Mrs mounted the footpath to try and avoid the on coming car, I would say she did as I have dificulty in accepting that the other car shunted your near 2 tonne motor so square onto the footpath, Rick

How is the wife Jim?

She's sore today and feeling a little embarrassed because the local paper have run an article on the incident. Good news is she is already making plans to get her next Terrano :thumbs
