I have now had the Patrol for 8 weeks, Its currently stuck on site at work but its got a list of jobs that need doing to it, so I thought it was about time I started a project thread :clap

The car has cost me exactly £40 so far, it will continue to earn me £70 a week for as long as I am using it on site.

I am sure you all know what a Patrol Safari looks like but what use is a project thread with out pictures

I have a list of bits that need to be done, all small things really.

Some of the work will be required for the next MOT

Service, I am not sure of the history so to be safe I will be changing

Engine oil and filter
Diff oil
Transfer Box
Brake fluid
ATF and filter
Coolant
As well as any other filters, air, fuel etc

Other things that need to be sorted,

Brake wobble - feels like front disc is warped, but previous owner thinks its to do with the wheels :nenau
Front spots need to be replaced
Rear fog not working
Radio not working
Washers not squirting water and washer tank leaking
Rear O/S door central locking not working
O/S Headlamp broken
Sort out the rot on the wings
AC needs a re-gas and a new belt squealing like a banshee
24v - 12v converter fitted

The long term plan is to turn this into a camping/expedition type vehicle, roof rack, and tent, in cabin sleeping system,

If anyone has any suggestions on how to do any of the above please feel free to add your input.

Let the work commence

hows the chssis and bits we cant see coping with the old tin worm?
it looks a mint truck and I can understand you getting exited going to work on it.:thumb2

For the last MOT the chassis needed a patch welding, about the size of a playing card, I am assuming that as its been in the UK 20 years the chassis must have been treated at some point, or it would have been converted to dust by now from the salted roads.

get it cleaned and protected as a priority.
did mine six months ago with hammerite and waxoyl.
it must be due again soon:D
there is currently 7 odd thousand t2 in the uk I think.
mine will last the longest:D

Where is the site?

Bristol, so not too far away.

I will be giving it a good clean when i do the service, but really no point at the moment, as the next day its filthy again. :(

This is 5 days worth.

I will be using the same stuff I did my mini with, shultz, its like a rubberised paint.

I have no idea how may high roof 42s there are, but I would bet not many. have never seen another on the road

Didn't think that was the underside of a troll:nenau
you're better off with waxoyl as the underseal / shutz stuff dries hard and the moisture gets under it . next thing you know is a huge section drops off the chassis. Waxoyl takes a hit and the damage is localised.
Nice Troll :clapthough...

Oh , by the way the book says 6.4L of oil...Nah mine took best part of 9L with the 2Filter change. the BnQ bucket was brimming . be prepared be very prepared:thumb2

Yeah, I saw 9L too, gearbox is 12L I believe. and 5 in each diff

Just found some brand new wings for £128 each, is that good?

The price for the wings sounds very good, can you tell me the company name/location as I could do with one(or welding up),cheers,
nice beast:thumbs

NEW WINGS you say, tell me more :thumbs
Mine aren't terrible on the rust front but they do get a right beating offroad:sly

Brake wobble - unlikely to be the disc warped, they're made from tank armour plate :lol Most likely though will be king pin bushes, top and bottom of the hub. they're shimmed and can be sorted easily. usually just by taking some out.

Rear fog not working . as an import it's prob an add on bit of wire dangling in the dirt :augie
Radio not working. Is it the original import radio/ If so bin it for a UK one.
Washers not squirting water and washer tank leaking. The system gets right mucky inside and the jets get blocked. Get a cheap inline fuel filter and use that once you've cleaned them. better still just get the jets off and put spray heads on the wipers ;)
Rear O/S door central locking not working. It's a nissan thing , get used to it :lol

Good luck it's awesome

Thanks for the tips, I believe that the radio was fitted before import, double din shiny ugly thing. Its hooked up to the 12v system which is a box under the passenger seat that is not working. I have been told its a loose connection, so some investigation will need to be done to root out the cause.

the washers, i cant hear the motor spin, so guessing the motor may be dead, and the tank is just a split, but again investigation required, the king pins can be checked when i do the service, I will get it up on the ramp and give at a good look over, I figured the fog light would be something like that, bulb and fuse are ok, so must be a connection. :nenau

The site team, the L200 is a dog compared to my older Patrol.

Took this today after pulling an arctic and a 9 tonne dumper out of the mud :clap

Service last night

A LOTTTT of fluid

My mate assisting with the fluid changes, handy that he has a ramp too :clap

Diff done front and rear, and the transfer box done, did not want to tackle the ATF, going to call a garage today and see if they will do it.

And some general shots of the condition underneath,

Leaky ball joint :(

This one looks too dry

Removed the crappy old spots too

Generally it looks pretty solid, it will be home again at xmas, so I will get the underside cleaned up and treated, and get the steering joints sorted as well as some other MOT work we found, rear brake pipe are a bit crispy and the anti roll bar bushes and drop links will nee to be swapped as they are dead

The list for the christmas work over is getting longer

Remove and replace broken headlight
Fix washers
Replace lost fog light
Brake pipes
Drop Links
Anti roll bar bushes
Ball joints on the steering
Refit the wheel arch that has fallen off
Replace nipples on the prop shaft and grease
Give the engine a good clean up and replace the hoses that are leaking
Have a look at the gearbox linkage

Thats all I can think of at the moment, but I am sure the MOT man will find more :doh
