Well, here we go. I purchased this car to be a tow'er (truck/4x4/what do you call it!!) as I had planned to build a new prefab garage for messing about with cars. Needed it for general building works. My current garage is a wee bit tight. I wasn't thinking that this was going to be my first 4x4 project when I got it. Purchased for 1500quid, and had an MOT until October - so how bad can it be! Owned by the same owner since 2007. Admitted that the speedo was wrong, not 60k but 106k (seems honest) and also said that he had got the gearbox bearings done and redone the clutch at the same time.

So, started to have a good poke around tonight. Based on some of the advice provided, check certain areas (minus the boot). Here is what I found:

Driver side front wheel arch, all good - maybe a little bit of bubbling.

Passenger side front wheel arch, thank good looking good to!!

Now for the drivers side rear wheel arch. Not so good, but not bad. Maybe a rub down and filler will do just fine.

Finally, the passenger side rear wheel arch. Worst of the lot, but not as bad as Jims-Terrano!

Next, under the car. The guy did say that it had be waxed. so fingers crossed. One thing you can't do is to crawl until the car, without jacking it up! Tight, but I managed it.

I had already found the compression-rod bush mount/cup or whatever you call it. Had thought about giving that a go, as access wasn't to bad. This was on the drivers front side

Next, moved along and found a bit of pointy metal. Had to check the other side to see what it was for. An additional cross support for a body mount. Maybe just cut it off, no one would be any of the wiser!

Next, at the rear another body mount which doesn't look the best. Not sure how easy it will be to do this on your back. Maybe will get a garage to do it?
Although would probably have to fabricate the whole bracket from scratch.

Next, checked the other side. Stuffed my hand into the front bumper support and can feel that breaking up. Just the side section. Certainly something I could tackle (no pictures, haven't taken the bumper off yet).

And that's it. Have I been lucky or just blind. Checked the rear seatbeat mount and appears sound. Wheel arch has been waxed good and proper. Rust is starting to lift on the edge of one side but no where near the bolt.

Did these come out of the factory waxed? The guy that owned it claimed he got it wax and also rubbed old oil around it. Certainly going by the pictures he did do that! I just hope that it wasn't to hide something!

Wax on the sill.

Old oil on the underpan.

So the plan next is to consider my options around doing the welding. And have other things such as full service, including brakes, etc. The cabin needs a good cleaning too.

All in all, think thats a good project to start with. Not a disaster to start with.:clap:thumb2

Looks pretty solid mate, expose the rust and treat it!
As far as I know they didn't come wax oiled or anything else which is why rust is more of a problem.

He's been here 5 mins and he's already family!!!

Very nice truck mate and a good solidish project :thumb2 I'm sure that welding will be fairly easy and someone on here local to you may even be abke to help or know someone that could do it for you.

Do you have any plans of lifting it etc or are you going to leave it as it is, I planned on leaving my 2nd Terrano "totally standard" i told everyone, now look at it :doh What Have I done

it went from this;

Bl**dy hell, thats some change.. Nah, main reason was for towing the trailer and the seven seats for the family, but you never know. My mid-life crisis hasn't hit yet, and so you never know what will happen in a few years time!!

Correct answer, we will hold you to that and possibly induce your mid-life crisis slightly faster, especially if you read Briggie's and Rustic's jokes :lol

I'll be looking forward to the tow life too soon :naughty

Got my B+E test on 29th  I'm only 24 see, none of this grandfather rights stuff for me :doh

You look to have a nice truck:thumbs

Yeah a couple of bits to sort but on the whole nice n clean. Good luck with your project however it evolves:thumbs

New Keys

Ok, decided to start of with a easy job. My key fobs have seen better keys, so for £6 of ebay, got replacement with new buttons. You have to solder the buttons on, but easy enough. They don't actual have pins that go right through the circuit board, but just solder on top.

Unfortunately one of the keys is still not working, and probably requires a new board. Have already tried to reprogram but doesn't recognise the key. The RF chip is probably broken.

Sadly theres a lot of rogues out there selling junk on fleabay. I bought a working key off ebay and guess what it wasn't, well it would unlock but not lock. Ended up making a good one out of my faulty one and the one I had bought off ebay. At least you have both the metal spring clips with yours which is a good start.

It's a flipper already but one of the buttons hasgiven up ad I'm replacing it from another Nissan fob with same buttons

Ah right, I know you were doing it on your mav, I was reading through old posts finding info on flip keys. Where did you get yours from?, from what I read it's important to get the right blade size, if you could point me in the right direction that would be awesome :)

I need to get the whole lot mate, blade and body x2. Pm me ur address I'll post a couple out, I'll get my mate to get me some more.

Next job, oil/filter service. Nothing major to report. Done and dusted, apart from the oil filter is a bitch unless you use one of those filter pliers. Had a chain one, but rubbish on this particular type.

Just keeping you guys updated!

Easiest access to the oil filter is through the passengerside wheel arch, remove the rubber cover. Also you are bound to spill a little oil too which will drip for a few days unless you clean it up.
