just been to scotland for a weeks break and dragged the caravan up there and its a 26 footer ,, now my question is i did 400 miles on a full tank towing the van is that good :nenauas i thought it was ,, and its a 3,0 di ,,

I normally work on 100 miles a 1/4 tank on a run, thats doing 80-85ish, mines a 2.7, never towed with it, i probably could do better keeping the right side of 70!!!!!, sounds to me like you did alright with the caravan on the back.

At Easter, I towed our 1500kg caravan from Oldham to Killin and back - 22.7mpg one way and 20mpg the other.

do you have a y60 oy y61? i did 350 miles recently and got 23. ish doing less than 70 with no tin tent ..im gutted as it looks like mine has a drink problem

Hmmm, forgot the LWB has a bigger tank than me :augie
In that case I gues it's average ;)
lwb has a 80ltr tank so thats like 22.73 mpg if u used the whole tank only really way to do mpg is to neck it do a run then neck it again so u see its the same level in the filer neck:thumb2

Y61. At 65-70 solo, I'd expect to get around 27-28mpg.

Andrew

Im getting approx 25mpg on a run in my y60, wonder if ill still get that when we get a tintent.

I make that 23.9 if its a 75ltr tank brill for towing a 26footer:D:clap
roy

Probably better than that.....it would be seriously in the red to take even 70 litres. But being the 3.0 its not surprising....its around 32mpg combined without a trailer.

I've just done 220 (motorway) miles towing a caravan, which used around 70 litres of fuel.

Which I think works out about 20 to a gallon.

23ft Caravan wieghing about 1500kg, with roof box on the car. Driving around 60mph.

i think you may not need to know but that works out just under 15 mpg mate and yes your motor has a drink problem  the 400 miles i did on a full tank and was still under the first quater mark,, on return ,,but been the 3,0 di i think they are better on derv any way ,but i only ever tow the caravan at a steady 55 mph ,its a truck drivers habbit :thumb2 well ex one , keeps the turbo off hence fuel saved the caravan in question and the terrano has just had the roof box fitted two which blows the wind over the van rather than fight the wind

Ok that has me a bit worried, so now I have looked at the bigger picture.

Over the holiday I did 796 miles, spent £223.00 on fuel and paid between 138p and 140p per litre. I have now come up with an average of 22.70mpg, which for the time being I can live with.

That's a nice looking set up by the way

France booze run

Her indoors has just returned from France after weekend run to Calais from Derby.
She managed 27.2 mpg and that brilliant as she is pretty heavy footed no towing but four up plus fully loaded return in the R3mR 2.7 TD!

just found a picture of the two together with roof box on . or and our lasses ass :sly

Bit off topic but(please dont take offence) your dog looks like it could do with a diet, our lab was a little on the heavy side and the vet told us in no uncertain terms about the harm it does. After cuttig out the snacks and leftovers he looks and acts like a puppy again. And i wish i could get a similar MPG as you can :(

The turbo starts producing boost pressure from around 1200rpm. At 55mph in top, you are close to the engines peak torque - and the turbo will be hitting its maximum boost there too except when you are on a trailing throttle.

You are getting decent fuel consumption because you are driving a bit slower than many do. Simple as that, I think.

i think thats were some poeple go wrong ,with there mpg , ,booting the hell out of the engine ,me slf i never rev it over 2000 revs theres no need for it ,why boot the turbo flat over ,, when a slow build up dos nicely ,, a turbo boost gauge in these motor would be a good thing as you know when its working and keeping the boost down is part of the fun keeping it down ,, and save some fuel ,, ,but some people are happy to boot there motors ,and enjoy going to the garage , are the ones to complain about the fuel and poor mpg ,, but meself am happy plodding around 55 mph.gets you ther just the same :thumbs and is it worth fly around just to get there a couple of mins early  NOR
