Took the old terrano for test this morning FAILED:eek: Handbrake cable snapped
when the tester pulled it that little bit extra to try and get the nearside wheel up to standard,
apart from that all was ok so happy in a way got nearside cable coming on Monday. so will fit and then result:thumb2 but thats just my luck.
but on the bright side, there is always one if you look for it:lol
It could have been parked on a hill when it snapped:eek:

yes there is always another side, i never trust the handbrake on my maverick, and always leave it gear when parked on a hill......just in case, and wheels turned towards the kerb,

:clap :clap :clap :clap :clap Good result.
Would rear brakes needs a look at if it takes that much effort on the handbrake to get them up to scratch?

No i think the cable was jammed /seized but will pull the rear drums off and have a good ferret around when fitting new cable.:thumbs

No harm being safe rather than sorry if you have the time and haven't had the drums off for a while.

Aye, the handbrakes can be a Bugger, as on mine the cylinders had gone and puked brake fluid all over the inside of the drum and the break shoes, after literally everything was replaced exept the drums and back plate, you can actually lock the rear wheels with the handbrake:eek: what a difference

even though i put my truck in park , i always apply handbrake

Hubs off to day all in good order just the cable nackered new one tomorrow.
changed fuel filter and greased prop shafts when it was up in the air.
need to look at manual as a little spring came off the brake shoe assembly, not sure how it goies back. would look at other side but did not slacken wheel nuts before i jacked it up and put it on stands:doh

Just had a look on Briggies manuals it only shows 2 springs? mine has three.

Two long springs between the two brakes shoes but is also two small springs on the pins holding in the shoes to the backplate. Maybe its one of these.

No its the one that holds the little metal bit that stops the ajuster from unwinding its self

New cable on and brakes all back together:thumb2 bit of a bitch to do getting the shoes all back together ,had to take other side off to see witch way the littlest spring of the three went.

Bin it, it does nothing, it is supposed to be an auto adjuster but never worked, that spring and the lever bit it operates would need to be a lot stronger than they are, it stood no chance of working, thats why you have to take the drums off to adjust the rear brakes including the hand brake, NEVER ADJUST IT WITH THE CABLE, on the backplate is a tell tale button, it is to the rear at the bottom, with the HB OFF you should not be able to push it in, then check with the HB ON it should go in about half way, it may be stuck so give it a hit to make sure, Rick
