got the mot on wednesday with my 96 terrano. just noticed front tyres are 215/75/15 rears are 215/80/15 will it pass or do i need 4 the same.

I would have thought they need to be the same size on the same axle.
FOR A START...

But realistically, not a good idea to have different sized tyres on a 4x4 like ours anyway, due to excessive windup.

Insurance will be invalid as non factory tyres fitted.
I up graded mine to a larger size, but I told the insurance company.

What size is the spare...
if the non standard size is on the spare, it MIGHT not be an issue to the MOT, but again size matters...

oh bugger front tyres shot the rears like new no one has 215/80/15 plenty 215/75/15. waste of 2 good tyres but if it has to be.

I wouldn't run odd sized tyres on a 4x4 but I have it on good authority if you have the same sized tyres on the same axle it will pass, odd sizes front to back is not a fail, nor I believe is an odd sized spare, but odd sizes on the same axle is a fail :thumb2

different sizes on same axle are ok, my mk1 golf runs 165/55/13 front on 5.5j alloys and 185/55/13 rears on 7j alloys and although mot testers look they pass that ok, although i wouldnt fancy running my t2 on them:eek:

:nenau ??? did that loose anyone, else or is it just me?

I've run smaller tyres on the front for years, but like its been said, ok to get through an mot.

Very common in vws scene, I've run beetles, and my old beach buggy on smaller front tyres to the rears:thumb2, never had a problem.

Maybe what I'm saying isn't correct, but that's what I've done/ did now and in the past.

if you re read you post you say different sizes on same axle are OK and then say you run different sizes on different axles?

I am sure the rule is: same size tyres on the two front wheels, same size tyres on the two back wheels, different between front and back is OK :thumb2

Yeah see what your getting at now:doh

Same size same axle, smaller tyres on front only:thumb2

How's that, sorry to confuse:eek:

sorted now all 4 same size.they bought my 2 good tyres £25 each. but same size axle but different front and rear is ok as there are several cars that come new with different front to rear sizes.

if you have different size tyres on front to back, then you must have 2 spares with you at all times :doh:doh

How does a space saver spare wheel work then :augie nothing like the size of the normal wheel/tyre;)

A Space saver is the same diameter as the normal road wheels on the car, but has a reduced width. Also there is A speed restriction applied when using one due to the reduced width, Usually 50MPH.
They are designed to get you home or to A tyre dealers only, to have your flat tyre repaired or replaced.

I don't think you have to have a spare wheel at all, either in the law or the mot, many new cars don't! but for MOT proposes if you have one they can check if it is roadworthy.

As for a spacesaver, you wouldn't pass the MOT with it on, but the MOT is not the law for riving on the road just a check to see if your car is fit for the road.

Yeah I'm sure ur correct, cos my mates new car only has a can of tyreweld, no spare! There is no legal requirement for a spare but it does need 2 have legal tread if its there

if it doesn't just take it off b4 the mot n leave it at home!

Age old saying, if its not there they can't fail it :naughty
