MOT need help

Hi, well took the T2 back today for the retest, all ok except the dreaded ABS light, tried the" pulling the bulb advice", and then have a look when the weather warms, but no good.
Have found some old posts on this and the general vibe seems to be that its usually the nearside front sensor, that the wires break off and can be fixed relatively easily. well as we speak have the wheels off and have located the sensor, coul do with some advice and detail as to what to do now, pics would be great, does the problematic wires occur at the sensor end or at the connector block end? Wish there was a download on here to help me. Am a bit stuck on this one, and dont want to make matters worse, so any help would be very appreciated

Hi what id try next then would be to piggy back some wire if thats posable, ( not looked there myself )

so if you can get it to work, then if that works out fix the wires properly.


i think the wire from nissan is silly money. ( so im told )

hi wayne, check plug and socket for corrosion try and clean with wd40 or what have you, check wires for damage, you may need a new sensor, i would imagine they are expensive from nissan or do you have a mate with a t2 with abs, could swap sensor for mot and sort later, just a thought ? :thumbs

Apparently having searched a couple of old posts, the general advice is not to remove the sensor from the hub as they will be rusted solid, and will be damaged getting them out, what is unclear to me at this point is where is the break in the wires that is causing the problem, is it usually at the sensor end or the block connector end? Come on guys i need my T2 back on the road.

I have downloaded a manual for my x-trial an found it to be of usefull.
Looking at the esm for the xtrail the abs looks a bit of a minefield. but generally the sensors seem to be a two wire connection and you would expect to read a resistence accross those two wires with a multimeter. This may be one way of checking for broken wires. and certainly an increased resistance over a bad connection would cause problems

From what I understand a break occurs in the wires between the sensor and the plug.
You will need to identify with a multi meter if there is a break in the wire from the sensor to the plug.

If there is then it is easiest to replace the whole wire from the sensor out to the plug via cutting and rejoining.

Thanks Chaps, have got the manual, and can see in more detail now what im up against. as ive said an old post from a member "glen" (wonder whether hes still around) says the same as Toolbox, need to use a multimeter on the ohms setting to find the break in the wire. gonna have to be Monday now thou, at work most of weekend.
the symptoms i am getting along with the light, are as follows, when light on, ABS seems to be ineffective as you would expect, very occasionally the light will not come on(usually when 1st start her up) and when the brakes are applied there is vibration on the pedal and what i can only describe as a hissing noise. this doesnt last very long till the light comes on.
what i want to know is this all linked to the sensor problem? or is something else going on as well?
