Starting a bike that has stood.

Some years ago I bought a Honda 250 Superdream 2462 YG was the VRM as I recall. It has stood for a couple of years with one of the spark plugs missing in a damp shed.

I had to strip the clutch as the wet clutch plates had stuck with standing. No parts replaced just separated them after immersing it in Diesel for a few days. Battery had to be replaced plus checked all earth mountings etc. Rectifier plates corroded - replaced as were CB points and the caron plug leads - fitted old fashioned wired leads.

Due to spark plug being left out and being stored in a damp shed one piston had seized. Used Diesel and Redex mix filled cylinder with same after a couple of days the kick start moved the cylinder about a quarter of an inch over next week got full movement. More redex down both bores as piston rings were sticking meaning not enough compression to fire.
In week 3 as it was electric start got it running on one cylinder. Put Redex in Petrol (4 stroke) new plugs. After a few minutes it went from 1 cylinder to 1.5 to both. A lot of gentle running no revs above 3k they would red line at 9.5k. A month later it ran as good as new. The old Hondas had Chrome bores. Ran bike for 18 months then my mate had it for a couple of years.

So I purchased the bike from my neighbor as a project and now I plan on using it depending on the shift pattern that I might have to work on the new job the traffic can be atrocious.

So I got it into the garage and cleaned it all up and in fairness it cleaned up fantastic. Drained what few drops of petrol that were left in the tank, drained the 2 stroke that had some how got water in with it, replaced the 2 stroke line from the tank under the seat to the carb.

I ripped the carb off, cleaned that all out and the jets which were a bit clogged up in fairness but the carb cleaner was really powerful stuff and made light work of the job. The neighbor in a last ditch attempt to get it started to try and squeeze more money out of me swapped the spark plug but didn't put the lead back on :doh popped that back on pronto.

Filled it back up with fresh 2 stroke and 5 litres of unleaded, connected a car battery to it and hey presto it turned over and fired :clap :clap :clap

It goes really well, I've only tested it on the private estate we live on as it's not Taxed and MOT'd yet etc etc and I've had it at 50mph :naughty feels like there's lots more left in it so maybe it will do 80mph top end :nenau

I better get my CBT booked soon and then I'll get it in for a test, I'll try and get some pics and vids up soon :thumb2

Moe :lol:lol
That plate could be worth a few quid to someone:naughty called Moe :lol

Just been reading up on your girlia and this statement made me laugh.
Handlebar switches mean you do not need to dismount to open the boot lid, and there is more space for handbags or documents behind the front screen. This comes complete with the now standard 12V socket for recharging ...
At least you have hand bag storage space:kissy:kissy
:lol

Thats a sweet little machine....well done.....get ticketed and ride.....:thumb2

Yeah, what a difference a wash can make! Much improved on the 1st pics! :thumbs

Well the scooter passed it's MOT with no advisories so I'm totally thrilled :D, they were very pleased to see it after so long as it was originally brought via them brand new back in 1999

Hopefully I don't have many issues with the Gilera, I've been pretty lucky with it so far in getting it going and then getting a sheet for it with no advisories

I want a big bike :naughty

Well done Zac. It's the right time to buy pal. No sane person will be riding a road bike in winter:lol:lol

I thought you god rid of the Trailer?

It looks awesome tho! :naughty

Makes the bike look tiny... You could carry a fleet of them on that!

Yep, mine is under a cover in the Garage with a Battery Maintenance device hooked up to it... I'm thinking about heating the garage! :lol

I'm sticking with the Gilera for now, going to get my CBT out the way in Jan then later on in the year if funds allow I'm going to do my Direct Access. The Gilera will be good to give me a taste of the road, it's not a gutless 50 but the power of the 125 should be enough to get me out of trouble should I need it.

At the moment it's being stored in the girlfriends moms Garage, we have to pick a King sized bed up from her Dad's in Bristol on the 30th then it's going to be laid to rest there until Feb when we move into our new place, in the meantime we'll be boxing the house up and storing it on the trailer then when move day comes we just pull up, attach and drag the majority of our stuff to the house :thumbs

After that, I have to find a new home for it, but for now all I can do is ask around and try and find somewhere suitable.

I have plenty of space to store it.. :naughty

Good luck with the house move! :thumbs

You could make yourself a bike rack and have it on the back of Terrance :naughty:lol
