Yep a good read, so to sum up in lay mans terms as I understand it, the addition of this stuff really only has a positive effect at low temperatures (start up) and has negligible effect at higher temperatures (once engine up to normal running temp) so the person going to benefit most is the short journey round town guy (like me) the motorway runners will see little or no benefit, I will order some and give it a go, Rick

Would benefit me on workdays then, only a ten minute journey down the motorway.
Will help protect engine etc. or just improve performance?

It basically improves low temperature self ignition in the early burn phase of combustion, so has the effect of advancing ignition slightly and during this stage lowers emissions, can see no other benefits, Rick

found this its a long read though.http://www.fragging.de/2EHN.pdf

That is an incredibly insightful piece. Particularly interesting were the points covered in the summation.

"Overall, the results suggest that the effects of the additive on engine performance and emissions are most likely the result of changes in the timing of the various stages of diesel combustion relative to the engine cycle, and except for the enhancement of the initial stage of ignition, not the result of fundamental changes in the diesel combustion process itself. "

Proof positive that if you want more power and a cleaner less polluting engine advance the timing.

In explanation, I am convinced the old practice of de-tuning diesel cars, carried out by manufactures to make them more appealing to the public as less clattery still goes on. Although admittedly less so with common rail advanced varieties

Rick, glad to see you're up for giving it a go but please forgive me when I say that your summation put a slightly negative slant on things and is not quite a true interpretation of the findings, as you have over simplified the results. From the paper
"This effect is greatest at lower temperature-density conditions, corresponding to low-load and start-up conditions in a diesel engine, and becomes negligible at the highest temperature-density conditions examined. "

The temperature density (not solely temperature) referred to is the temperature of the burn within the cylinder. An improvement was seen across what could be interpreted as the whole range of different driving conditions. However you are right that this was least evident under high load, so little difference charging down the motorway... but remember you still have to drive from 0mph to get to that said 70mph.

Point taken Goatmaster, hope you can get to one of our meets as would like a good old chinwag, Rick

After the day I've just had trying to get my newly acquired Teranno to run the chances are I'll be giving up and going back to old Ssangyongs with the far easier Merc engines long before the next meet!!!!!

Only joking- supposed to be a dry day tomorrow so fingers crossed as the plan is to remove, fix and replace the starter before dark.

after a lot of forum reading on many sites i feel it will not damage my common rail so i will introduse it into my 3l with a bit of 2stroke oil, better to use them than sitting about gathering dust.
yes rick give it ago the site i suggest is the cheapest i could find.

Arrived today, first dose in and driven a couple of miles to mix it up, see how it starts in the morning, Rick

further reserch got me looking at using accetone in fuel,a lot of forums out ther and it seams to do the same as 2enh,i have put it into my wvo mix and did not get any probs.

Well it did not start any better this morning, and did not notice any difference on my quick hop to Eastbourne and back, so we will see, Rick

What dosage? I have found the 15ml to 10 litres (wvo) gives a very noticeable difference, both starting and performance. This was in an already advanced Merc engine. Perhaps the difference is less discernable with higher ratio of diesel?

Had just over half a tank (90 Lt on a patrol so about 50 Lt) added the recommended 100 Ml, will see how it starts tomorrow as it might not have got mixed and into the pump with my short run after adding yesterday, Rick

As per post 35 have added another 50ml to tank, but still no difference to starting, did a small trailer scrap run today and am sure it smokes more than before when I gun it, to the point that I noticed cars following dropping back a bit, of course that could also of been because they see stuff moving about on the trailer but all was secured, no noticeable performance increase so jury is still out on this one, do not think I will be risking it on the Mrs 3 as have seen what happens to these when ran on anything other than pump fuel, Rick

Not worth risking on the 3ltr Rick. Straight diesel for mine other than the 2 stroke thing I done for quite some time but gave up with that when my local supply ran out.
