Hi, can anyone help please! I have recently brought a Mistral 2.7td (1995 approx year) and am having a problem with the auto box. when driving with the power/hold switch in the normal running position seems to kick down a gear too quickly and occassionaly loses drive altogether. when the switch is in power or hold position there doesn't seem to be a problem. My first thought was to check the oil in the gearbox, with the engine cold and switched off it shows way too much oil on the dipstick, with the engine warmed up and on tickover it shows very low oil on the dipstick. I have not had a 4x4 before or a automatic vehicle. My question would be do I check the oil with it hot and on tickover to show the accurate level as I believe auto box's work on oil pressure? I have tried to find a level/filler plug on the auto box but can only find the drain plug.

Unfortunately the mistral doesn't have an owners handbook with it and the only service manual I have been able to download is for a later model.

I would appreciate any help

Thanks
Phil

Phil you fill the box through the dipstick tube and usually you check an auto running in park.
