Hi,
my lad mistakenly put £20 of petrol in my T2 last nite, which was nearly empty at the time,limped home, clouds of white smoke. anyone know how to get round this, Mot up shortly so looks like gonna have to come off the road anyway.
Kids eh who would have em!

did the same thing with my derv car..stuck 35 quids worth of unleaded in before i realised..phoned a mate and he said fill it with desiel to the top and it will be fine...and it was,apparently its the other way round ur doomed..infact it seemed to run better...Not sure about the big trucks but i cant see it being a prob..
 
Id drain tank and refill with Diesel, new fuel filter too....

make Lado pay for the bits too!

Think yourself lucky he puts fuel in :thumb2 Last "kids episode" we had was half a tank of petrol gone on a yaris and a damaged alloy after one of the girls had used it "around town for a couple of miles" :mad:

I saw one of their vans a couple of months back and stored the number, thought it might just come in handy with a petrol 4x4 and diesel car... someone will slip up one day :doh
 
if you can do as zippy says. amate of mine did the same with his disco he just filled it up with diesel and after a few spluttery miles it was ok think the older the engine the less chance of damage.i knew a bloke with an old flatbed van who used to swear by a couple of quids petrol in with every tank of diesel to keep engine running sweet, he was a bit mad though lol.
 
fill it up with derv and use it, and as jonno said, i know several guys who in the winter, put a couple of gallon of petrol in, and top it up with diesel, they swear it runs better and keeps all the works clean, :thumb2
 
Yeah just dilute it to the max and drive it steady - if you can, syphon as much out as you can get to - NO HARM DONE.

I filled my entire tank with petrol from empty a few years ago at 1am in a freezing downpour on the M6 with three kids in the car - hammered off at 90mph until the bloody thing spluttered to a halt after three miles.

Luckily I had breakdown but i cost me a nights sleep and £150 to have the tank drained and pipes flushed.....but that was 100,000 miles ago now....:thumb2

thats a relief, thought it was gonna be worse than that. will get our what i can as you say and brim it with diesel(better start saving). And yes my wonderful son can contribute.

Nice one - sometimes having older diesel technology is a benefit!
 
Done same on old t2,put redex in and fill to brim no problems after.
 
i know it s abit late too add this but i used to have isuzu troopers and their handbook recomended adding some petrol to the diesel! though i do beleive it was a max of 10%,

the drain / syphon as much as you can and then top it up seems like good advice, though if it was me i would probably drain it and change the fuel filter as i am a paranoid wuss
 
Have heard a few tales of wagon drivers in years gone by have added petrol to their derv tanks, apparently to try to stop the fuel lines waxing up, which was a regular occurence im told this time of year. So on that, n whats been said on here, hopefully ok. Am driving a Fiesta at the moment, trying to look after 4 horses (taking em water in Aquarolls, froze up at field)- it just aint anythin like the T2 at getting the job done.
Will have a look the weekend is on Us.

Well, good news! wont be gettin rid of me just yet. got a much of the petrol out as i could and filled with diesel. Run her up and although a little lumpy is still good to go for a few more miles i think. as was said thank god for older diesel technology:clap:bow.
Truck out of mot in a couple days time so will be coming off the road for a while, gonna use her predominantly going forward to tow my daughters horses to shows. show season finished now till around Mar April time, so gonna wait till the weather improves before gettin it through the ticket. Will also serve to get the Mot away from Xmas time.
know it needs anti roll bar drop links, couple tyres, and maybe a little welding. Oh n gotta sort out as to why all of a sudden ( since the fuel problem) that it aint puttin any charge back into the battery. but that obviously aint got nothin to do with the fuel.

Drop links and bushes are cheap and cheerful from Milners and a piece of cake to fit.

Be careful of thinking the battery might not be charging.....these old buses take a serious amount of cranking amps (not only does the battery have to start the thing to begin with but it keeps the glowplugs hot for the next ten minutes as well) and it doesn't take much for a battery to very quickly stop being up to the job when it gets a bit tired, especially in this weather - just had to deal with that very thing myself on wifeys truck. So stick a meter on and check charging first - theres plenty of links to give you the numbers if you don't know 'em. :thumb2
 
Maybe i should start a new link? having sorted the fuel problem- started her using a Sealey machine ( not sure what to call it- numbered 1 to 5 n puts instant power to the battery to crank it over). no engine damage ran fine. however having then done around 8 mile trip, wouldnt start again off the key after i turned her off. just seemed as there wasnt enough power in the battery, which i would have thought should be fully charged after 8 miles. Since then have taken off the battery which incidentally was new this time last year from Halfords, and trickle charged it for over 24 hours. Reading fully charged, but again wont turn her over fast enuff to start her. took battery got it checked, said it was ok and should start any motor.:confused: so am looking for some guidance on this, not to hot on the electrical side of things, so an "idiots guide to" is called for. What could be makin her turn over so slow? Did notice in the last couple of weeks prior to the fuel mishap,- that was gettin more difficult to turn over in th mornings, but put that down to the extreme cold, but didnt ever fail to start at all.
Any help would as always be appreciated.

try looking at the earth straps.. barty to car and engin to car. both i belive can cause this trouble.

also from my owm T2 the battery clapms themslevs can crack, and not alow enough power through, but have enough for all other elctric things..
