Afternoon all,
I've a small conundrum, not my LWB nissan T2 which is running very well, but a colleagues Ford Maverick R reg 2.7TD SWB.

Essentially when the key is turned in the ignition, the MIL light flashes slowly, on following the toolbox PDF, I short out the two pins described and get a slow but continuous flash, so I can't see any form of fault code. When I try to clear the MIL faults down, the same slow flash happens, if I repeat te process, the MIL returns to flashing quickly, no long or sort flashes are observed in either state.

The immediate history of the car is that it sometimes stopped when on tickover, ie at lights etc, I changed the fuel filter and this did not clear the problem, this was ongoing until yesterday when the car would not start. My mate called out the RAC who were frankly not much cop.............

So today, I've tried to clear down and read fault codes, failed on both counts, taken the fuel pipe inlet off the pump to remove the banjo........ the thimble filter is not present........... I noticed that the priming pump on top of the filter is rock hard........

Any thoughts please...... very welcome .......

Regards

Dave

Puzzling Dave to be sure - first time I've heard of a flashing EML unless as a result of being 'paper-clipped'.

Possibly worth a battery disconnect; you never know with these silly ones?

paul

yeah id try disconnect the battery and press the break to clear any residual charge (thats what we do with the Mazdas to clear the ECU)

but, with regards the cutting out issues....CKP. I know I keep going on about it as if its the magic fix...but check it. As for the SLOW EML light flashing...odd, do you mean actually flashes slowly, rather than long pauses in between flashes?

don' know about the fords but the terrano handbook says that if it flashes when ignition is on it is to do with the nats/imobiliser control

I am sure I read in the handbook that if it flashes when driving "do not turn the engine off as it will not start again" go to your nearest Nissan dealer, so most probably to do with NATS I cannot find my book to confirm, Rick

my primer seized, took it apart gave it a few taps with a hammer works fine now . slow flashing mil had that too .
have you tried keeping the revs the same but apply the brake pedal. only enough to just before any brake bite. mine used to go out after it dropped the revs a little

Update on the slow continuous flashing MIL.
Engine dead and mil showing long slow flash, quick flash successive after paperclip. But no reset or fault code.

Took the battery off for 24 hours to lose the memory in the ECU. Prior to this and although having changed the fuel filter three weeks ago, thought I'd see if there was any water present. The filter was nearly full so the sensor was stopping the engine from working at all. drained it all off, did the paperclip reset which did not reset the MIL light from its boringly long slow flashing.
So, battery off.
Battery back on and engine started, MIL now on constantly so will clear down faults via paperclip later on today.

This is an odd one and I think also added to a NATS fault, the engine combined fault caused a lock out. I really need a bit of software for this and link to the data cable on the nissan. May well design one if there isnt one available...........

Thanks to all, this has been an interesting challenge...

Dave

water after only three weeks? How can that be, have you been running something odd again LOL?
