So, as I'm new to this motor and only got it to pull my Tin Tent, I didn't know what to expect on MPG, at the mo it seems to be doing about 20mpg keeping it to no more than 50 around the lanes and being gentle on the gas.

So I'd like to know if that can be improved and What you lot are getting?????

driving gentle through lanes i get around 28-30mpg around devon up and down smallish hills compared to wales or up north hope that helps where u live is it very hilly:nenau up could get a k&n induction filter can get 3-4 mpg more i have 1

I get 24 mpg when driven careful

My 31" muds and fixed hubs are the killer

Well, I see a lot of words about Power and acceleration in these ads, which to a not very knowledgable bloke like me seems to indicate higher performance, equating to more Fuel useage, i.e. Less MPG, Not more???

not quite. What these filters help to achieve is getting better quality air into the engine, via a better air flow, the induction kits improve on this because of the cone shape. This means the engine can combust fuel more efficiently, and this is why the MPG's can actually go up, not down, end of the day, the filters increase air into the engine, not fuel. The only way you MPG can go down, is if you tell the engine to put more fuel in, which you may well do due to the engine running way better, cleaner, crisper and power delivery being quicker. Drive sensible, and the filters can noticably improve things.

I only fitted a direct replacement, and noted the difference straight away. More grunt from the engine, idles better, drives better. Im not saying its this massive performance upgrade, because it isnt, but it will certainly help your engine.

as Stinka says, blank the EGR too if you have one (you probably have). if its not working, or is clogged, this will definatley affect perormance etc.

Good morning. LWB terrano luggage and lots of winter bits spares and tools, most part two people but some time four. Trip from Kendal to Llandudno and running around 29.6 mpg.

Trip from Llandudno to Kendal and running around 29.6 mpg. As I use a rapeseed/derv mix I keep arecord as required by the government.

These results are fill up to fill up. Regards. Bri

How are you measuring your mileage?
If you are using the odometer on the vehicle, then you are probably travelling more miles than what that shows, due to the larger overall diameter of the tyre.
Ie less tyre revolutions per road mile, your speedo will also be showing less than your true road speed too, so take care on that one, check it against a GPS unit on a long straight road at constant speed.
Do this for different speeds, but essentially 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70.

If this is the case, you will be getting more than 24 mpg.:thumbs

So is there a cheaper version of the K&N filter for the 2.7 Td?

I have found 38-9150 for £36.57 can any body beat this?
Opie oils can't. Over £40

I would be tempted if it was less than £30.00 inc p&p.:nenau
Rustic

but u have had ur car for 17 years how many filter changes have u done if for the last 10yrs u only paid for 10 filters at £4 each you would have paid for the k&n but still paying for the original type filter but only cleaning the k&n every 24 to 30 thousand plus all the more mpg u will get from it so u could put it the other way after say 4 -5 full tanks of diesel u would of paid for the k&n:thumbs

Wildbri " As I use a rapeseed/derv mix I keep arecord as required by the government." what records are these? David.

What size Ball Bearing should I use to block the EGR?

I used the metal fitting that Ikea kitchen units use a set of four of to hold the internal shelves up. Plugged up the pipe beautifully!

better off using a blanking plate, to stop the fumes from entering the engine if the egr is stuck open

Yeh, chances are it wi be full of shit and sticking or partially closing like mine was, blank it properly
