The nearside is about the same but the outer has been rubbing on the inner, just trying to keep the rust worms at bay, the offside under wing was being attacked with surface rust. All cleaned up and waxoyled now. The car has spent all of its life in Cornwall, when I lived down there I swore I would never buy a local car, moved to Bletchley and ended up with a Cornish car.

Hmmm...in the past I've owned (fortunately very cheaply) the odd seaside car and I wouldn't again personally. They inevitably fall apart early because of salt corrosion.

I recently walked away from an absolute mint looking 3-door on a 53 plate cos when I looked underneath it was like the Titanic....then I spotted the dealer sticker - from Hull.

But then the T2 invariably falls apart around the engine, so what the hell!

I was watching that "After People" thing on Sky the other day and at one point the narrator said "Day Six after people, and all the Terranos have dissolved...."

...LMFO!!!!! :D:D:D

received some very nice new Shocks, advertised as Maverick 96-03. surprisingly they will not fit, loop fitting top and bottom. mine is a pin top loop bottom.
decided to stick with the current size tyrs in case sizing up affects the pretty good handling I have. so 4 x general grabber 225/70/15 orderd from Camskill.

well what an eventful week. Tyresreplaced a very nice set of General Grabber AT2s. same size, tyre whine is an octave higher than the ones that came off - I love it!
Replacement shocks have arrived I will recommend the supplier, when they realised the mistake was in the Monroe catalogue they have swopped them, and covered all costs.

and I thought I would get the tyres muddy last night before leaving work, we have an overgrown field which is a bit of rough ground. Unfortunately the truck got hung up on a mud pile, the rear offside wheel ended up with a 3 inch gap under it. took me ages (alone until my daughter and family arrived to help) jacked it up and put a pile of paving slabs and a plank under the wheel until it made contact, a bit of a shove from the family got the rear nearside over the top of the hummock. 4 wheel drive worked well but could do with a diff lock. all this in a field of 3ft high thistles.......

the wheel was just touching the board, it took another two layers of paving slabs to get grip. started with a three inch gap under the wheel

ouch... good news about the shocks though... so how is the maverick then. any feedback on it

I am pretty impressed with the Mk3 Maverick. I got it for winter driving and towing, I start towing in earnest this weekend, but so far it has no problem towing a twin axle 1083kg caravan. the max towing weight is 1309kg. http://www.uktow.com/index.asp

I drive daily between Bletchley and Daventry and it copes well with the A5, when I did a run in it to Cornwall it was a bit 'underpowered' on the big hills but was comfortable enough, I did not feel knackered at the end of the drive.

I have not tried it seriously off road, the field I run round is well rutted and if it had not got hung up on the nearside sill would have successfully got out of the rough stuff I went through. (My wife has banned me from playing in fields until after our Holiday)
If you want to travel fast - buy a Ferrari not a 4x4.

Towed my Trailer Tent to Gloucester at the weekend. No problems on the flat but coming up Birdlip Hill was an experience, I do not think it would have managed to tow the 1083kg caravan up the hill, so if I tow that anywhere I will have to drive around any big hills.......

Birdlip Hill (which I think is the one with the Air Balloon Pub at the top) is steep and long and when I went that way to Oxford last year with my 1500kg Caravan on, I ended up in second on the T2. So I shouldn't worry if you had your foot pressed down pretty hard!

Regards

Alan

Thats the one with the Air Baloon at the top. I was in third towing the trailer tent. Only a 2ltr 16v Petrol engine.... could always go to Cheltenham and out on the A40 or go across the M4 to Swindon and up from there - much flatter.
