Ok, the reason I changed mine was the lack of O-Ring between the air flow meter and the airbox. Unfiltered air had been contaminating the hotplate air flow meter for god knows how long. Took the sensor out of the barrel, cleaned with a cotton bud and electrical contact cleaner and it was obvious where i'd been on the hotplate but i couldn't access even half of the area.

Having replaced the air flow meter I now have improved low down torque and throttle response.

Original unit: 0281 002 440 on the barrel, F 00C 2G2 030 (591 24 1C below this) on the sensor inside.
Replacement unit: 0281 002 207 on the barrel, F 00C 2G2 033 (204 13 2C below) on the sensor inside.

The replacement unit is a genuine Bosch unit with a surcharge applied so they want the old unit back.

The main difference I'm going to explore through Bosch's technical department is that my original unit had what appears to be a thermocouple on the hotplate sensor unit whereas the replacement unit has the mounting pins but nothing there.

I would expect this is to provide inlet air temperature.....however....I plugged in our Bosch KTS diagnostic unit at work a few weeks ago before I replaced the meter and the inlet air temp constantly read 215 Celcius!
It does exactly the same with the new unit.

Two options here, either the ECU doesn't read for inlet air temp, or it does and the original unit had a broken thermocouple.

Will report when I know more.

On the plug to the MAF you'll see that only 4 of the 5 wires are connected. The 5th wire is for the thermocouple - it's not needed. I also get a constant 215 celcius through an OBD2 scanner.

Just to report, my new genuine Bosch air flow meter is going fine and it turned out to be £10's of pounds, not the £100+ for the 'exact' replacement that was out of stock at Bosch Germany and had a 2 month lead time!

erm any chance you can work your magic on finding a replacement Hitachi MAF:thumbs for 10s of pounds :bow

crap, this post is anciant :eek:id of been 12 when it was first created!....sorry, that im 0% helpful here:augie

Maff

Fitted new maf puchased from a member on this site

Feels loads better smoother on tick over no power dip when stopping, just checking if its improved my miles per gallon now.

My newer T2 02 was running ok but something was just not right even wife said our old 97 T2 was a little better when stopping, the newer one had like a flat spot on the last dip of the clutch hard to describe.

Hi,

I'm going to be giving my MAF sensor a check over & clean up (if it's needed) tomorrow all being well. As this will be my first time doing this I have printed off the superb workshop file by Banshee http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/downloads/workshop/wk48.pdf & I'm set to go.

I just wanted to confirm that all I need to do is spray the resistor with the contact cleaner & leave it to dry? I use this spray: http://www.wd40specialist.com/products/contact-cleaner/

Thanks in advance for your answers!
