Hi All
We have a 2004 Nissan Terrano 2.7TDI, Whilst driving to and from work the engine dies down and you can only drive the car at 10 Mph, Pull over and turn engine off for 5 mins Start him up and away we go. This process has been repeated 6 times now.

1 I suspect the maf is on its way out ? and if so where is the best place to purchase at a realistic price. (Bosch Type )

2 Could it be the fuel lines ?

Comments warmly welcomed

I had this behaviour when I tried the wrong type of MAF - the signal was out of range for too long and the car shut to just above idle. If you disconnect the MAF then the car won't shut down but you will only get about 60% power.

Check the part number on the side of the plastic housing after the filter that the sensor sits, it should be 22680-7F400 or 22680-7F406. Mine is a 2005 and is the 2nd one, yours might be the first being a 2004. The first one is cheapish the second one expensive but you can find the sensor in others cars (Vectra diesel for example).

OK need to get maf sensor out to clean , Can any body tell me what they call that 5 star security screw with a hole needed on screw driver, At the moment i can't find any thing that fits :-(

thers a few of us with this problem at the moment, myself included :/

it might be crank position sensor

have you checked the codes from mil light flashes ?

its an anti tamper torx

I just used a small pair of mole grips on the sides of the screw head

when i cleaned mine it did nothing, although the wire was covered in dust and crap

The 5 pointed torx bits with hole in the middle are called 'Torx TS'. Just search ebay for 'Torx TS' or '5 pointed torx' and you'll find plenty of sets.

OR just give the little center bit a twat with a center punch :sly simples:thumbs

Got the little blighters out with a Grips :) have now cleaned sensor wire with electrical cleaner, OK fingers crossed. Here are the part numbers 0281 002 596 and 22680-7f406
I have seen some on eBay with part numbers 0281 002 594 will this different part number effect the amps to the ECU. or have i got to get the exact part number? May need to buy one if it keeps playing up.
Just completed oil and filter change and also fuel filter, So jobs a good one at the moment.

Thank you for the replies, I will be looking at a vauxhall maf . And a big thank you to theron you have certainly done your home work.
