OK so maybe early days, but so far stinka, makeitfit and me (for my petrol road motor) clivvy and zippy both maybe's, Ray needs an order for ten to make it worthwhile at £50 a time, this is a worth while mod that will improve low down power and fuel consumption, Rick

I'm In, it might be just what I need when towing the caravan, that delay as you pull away sometimes catches me out.

This is an interesting thread, and I would definitely be interested in one for the £50.00 asked, however tinkering with the engine management system holds great fear for me in case whatever I do is irreversible.

I don't do off road, but could the device provide a bit more grunt, when towing a caravan?

Is it possible to see some photos of it attached, with the wiring connections?

Can it be turned off when not required I.e. not towing?

Thanks

Alan

I am just trying to find if I can get the same plug and socket from the wiring loom of the Nissan, I am sure I found them somewhere a while ago, but can't find them at the moment. If not I will just add a couple of AMP or MOLEX ones, so I can unplug it and insert it in the cct when I need it.

When I do not need it in place (E.G MOT, etc) I can just connect unplug it, and put the connectors back together.

intresting.. plug and play would be very cool

If you can find a source for the 5 pin Bosch connectors I could look at including that in the build. Won't be much use for the Hitachi MAF though, although Bosch seems to be the more common type.

Rick could probably get some pictures of his install for you.
I don't have it fitted, as I have the ZD30 engine witch sports a VNT turbo so the benefit would be far less apparent.

What the unit does is quite subtle, and at worst it will be restoring the MAF signal to somewhere closer to it's original as new specification.

MAF's age, and cleaning them certainly helps but ultimately a fine layer of dirt builds up which progressively de-sensitises it. This is especially apparent a low air speed/volume where the fueling needs to increase from idle, otherwise you find yourself applying a lot more throttle to compensate for this dead spot.
So there exists a possibility for some fuel saving here too!

It would be a simple matter to arrange for a switch to defeat the unit if and when required.

Still can't find the connector...

Think I will go with this idea... using 4pin waterproof connectors

What would make it really neat Rick, is if while they are being built, they could have 2 x 12v and GRD wires coming out of the box, so then there would be no need to double up the wires in the connector crimps.

Will the box be water proof? I guess not if there is a POT on it that needs to be "Played" with.

I appreciate the comprehensive reply to my query, and I am definitely interested in one. I am also happy to pay a little extra, for a 'plug & play' version, which I can simply connect to the existing MAF without having to cut any wires etc.

My knowledge is very limited on the electrical side of this vehicle, so a 'fool-proof' version would be great.... Apologies if I'm asking a bit too much though.

Looking forward to seeing this idea develop. I imagine there are a few here that will want one.

Regards

Alan

I really don't think any of you will want a switch with it once you've felt what the old T2 can do.
In theory if you drive the same as you do now you will save on fuel. Extra fueling earlier gets you through the gears more quickly to your cruising speed. It'll probably help stay in higher gears too. Well that's what my Tunit does and I suspect it's doing a similar job.
Enjoy

Whats the plug called, part number?

I can't find it any where at the moment...

I found a site that does most of the Japanese car plugs and sockets, but it looks like the MAF one may be unique to the Hitachi unit, so I guess only available from Hitachi, and even then you will probably only be able to get hold of the Socket, as the plug is moulded into the actual MAF.

Still looking though...:nenau

I will take a pic or two tomorrow but I do have the Hitachi Maf and also it has been moved, so will not be too representative of the Bosch set up, and being as I do not have the Bosch Maf I do not know what the plug looks like, Rick
