So who's up for a crack at it next year?

A few details for you to consider.

Entry fee £150, includes hotel room and dinner for 2 at the finish
Competition Insurance £37.50 per person for the event
Fuel we did about 600 miles this year plus getting there and back so about 850 though it is billed as 1000 miles usually.

You need
A 4x4, somewhere to sleep at night, either in tent or in vehicle and stove, food etc for the trip.
Theres a few other compulsories spade, tow rope, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, compass etc but nothing too stressful especialy for most 4x4 types.

And of course you have to raise money for Macmillans, £600 minimum per crew, if a few teams put in NFM4x4OC can do it jointly and thus offer any sponsors more potential exposure etc

Now the big thing is - entry forms will be released April 1st, if you want a run you need to fill em in and send them off same day, we were lucky and got a run from a reserve entry but over 50 of the available places went the very first day.

BTW - the very first Mac was won by a T2 LWB, and if we hadn't sped through 2 of the sections we'd have been top 5 or even top 3. A std T2 or Nav, Patrol etc is more than up to the job, the offroad stuff being limited and always pitched to get the most standard of 4x4s through. They just say you have to have a low ratio box to keep the true soft roaders out.

I would like to have a go at this next year.

How do i get registered etc..

BTTT

Entries open tomorrow.

They filled up in 4 days last year with over 3/4 going inside 24hrs so you need to be on the ball if you want a run next year.

I'm doing it again but in the other seat this year though I will still be in my Terrano - all being well I have sorted a "celebrity" driver though he can't 100% commit till he has more idea what championship and car he will be competing in next year - thats the only clue you're getting for now.

Hi ya have been waiting for the entry date have been watching with interest

SO TEAM NISSAN4x4OWNERSCLUB.com

Davemud

P.s May be needing co drive but lets see if i get in first :)

James Thompson
no - but I'm not getting into a guessing game.

Anyone enter then?

61 entries landed on thursday morning and they were going to keep entries open till the post arrived this morning - so it's too late now if you haven't.

Didnt get chance i was away and only got back last night.

So peeved i really fancied doing that.

They're taking reserve entries and you don't have to pay until you take the entry up if you get it offered. Last year 12 reserves got a run - I was one of them as it happens.

Hi completed the form at 6am on the 1st and delivered it to the local post sorting office
by 8am should have been there by the 2nd :)

Good luck to all who entered as good show from the club would be nice' should no on Monday

MAC 4x4 UK Challenge 2010

Good luck with the fund raising lads n lasses .......... that's what it's all about afterall.

Having done the event for the last three years (2007 - 2009 incl) ... we're "having a year off" from the MAC in 2010.

Many members may remember that you helped Mick & I raise funds during 2006 for the March 2007 event (team 20) and in return I did a couple of off-road days for the club at Brownhills, including an "advisory" training day for newbies.

Anyway ............... GOOD LUCK! to all taking part, cos as you say the event was "sold out" by 2 April.

Hello Steveray, Nice to here from you again.

Can you answer a question for me and i hope i am not missing something here, Why if this event is so hard to get involved in and entry space is so limited, So much more money could be raised if there were more entry spaces, Ok this may be down to the laws and entrie numbers allowed but is it not possible to do it twice a year if its so successful?.

Just me thinking allowed but is seems so many are willing to raise money and cannot get involved in the challenge.

Mav - good to speak to you too - sorry it's been so long since I've been on the site (looking even better than before btw).

back on topic ........

I think they limit it to around 60 motors purely on "logistics" grounds ..... it's hard enough for them to keep 60 motors together, without causing long delays inbetween stages for the participants. That said, the event has raised around £100K every year for the last three years - so it's not a bad return.

Selwyn (organiser from Marches Motorsport) did say that they are considering a "truck" version of the MAC - likely to run in November; open solely for commercial / pickups. It's not something I've seen on their website, but he did give it a 'plug' during the Sunday evening dinner.

Something that may be of interest:

BOFA4x4 is considering running a "mini-Mac" later in the year, not even announced it publicly within the BOFA Club yet, but it would be:

a two-day event (Sat & Sun)
around 300-400miles max
limited to 12 places
would include off-road & on-road elements
entry fee - likely to be FREE (depends on discussions with forrestry)
entry condition - raise a min amount of sponsorship (paid into the Team BOFA4x4 'Just Giving' account) by the time you start the event.

As you can see, the above details are "hot off the press" and if one or two teams are considering entering from this club, then I'll post details on here too (with your permission of course).

Thanks steve, guess that answers my questions.

Best wishes and good luck.

Regards, Mav.

Btw, The web site may look better than before as it dont belong to me anymore, But thanks anyway.

Steve - can you keep me informed on whats going on re Mini-Mac - could well be interested in that myself. Would have to find someone else to do it with as I have a yet to be announce celeb driver for 2010 Mac - I was team 33 this year btw - electric blue Terrano.

Mick - as well as the logistical reasons there are legal ones too. Only certain events written into to relevant act are allowed to run events on the public highway that will be passing anyone point for more than 3hrs during the day or 2 hrs at night. With the 60 entries and people running easily upto 1hr late you can see how this is the most they can do.

I emailed Peter Rowland the other day (one of the organisers) about Mac ruck but it seems there have still been no entries to date - if a few come in I may consider finding someone with a pick up to do it with - or if I came across a D21 atthe right money.........

I did think that the laws would come into it as i posted in my last post and why i went with the idea of more than one event a year,
I know this would mean that there would be a need for more organizers and marshal’s but if there are that many that are keen to enter to raise funds as drivers (Teams) could this mean there are as many marshal’s just as keen.

Is this club having a charity this year as we have for the last 3 years? (Children in need).

Mav.
