just read the download on the body lift and wondered if any one has done one on a 2.7tdi lwb.had a crawl under mine yesterday to what differences there are .am going to attempt to d.i.y lift her as i can get the lift blocks machined at work(for nowt)but any pointers would be greatly apprciated  :?

Think you will need 10 blocks not 8.

Source your bolts first, the standard ones are M12 x 1.25 x 100mm, you'll need them longer by however much you lift it. I lifted mine 60mm as per the download ad the shift into 4L is now a bit awkward.

On the SWB on the front bolts you can get to the nuts easily so can get replace with ordinary M12, the next 2 (under driver and passengers feet) are held by plastic holders, if you remove the holders again you can replace th nuts. The next 2 are under the rear seat and are between the panels so you really need the correct bolts, likewise the rearmost, they go into a box section.

You'll need something to make up the bumper brackets with, 3mm alloy plate would do.

Likewise the inner wing splash guards, I used a bit of curtain side.

I didn't have to worry about the fuel tank but you may have issues with that.

Don't forget to slacken the pinch bolts on the steering column.

Hardest bit was probably gettin the bolts out, I snapped one and spent about 30-60 mins removing each of the others, using a combination of 2ft breaker bar and impact gun. Slowly winding them backwards and forwards to free em off as I went - thats after soaking em in spray over the preceding weeks.

Good luck.

body lift

iv'e got a week off work in may so iv'e got plenty of time to get everything sorted.all the nuts, bolts etc can get via work so price is not going to be an issue just getting an idea of whats involved.did my sj about 8 years ago and didn't have any problems(until i killed the engine)but thats another issue.thanks for the advice will have a look at the tank area and see if theres any problems involved.am going to do a write up with pics when i do get started on it.

elty001 Hope the lift goes o.k. will wait for photo,s to see how you got on.Hope you have better luck than HB in finding bolts Dinky.

I sell nuts and bolts for a living and I couldn't source them when I did my lift so I should make sure you can first.

I ended up, cutting the body work to get at the captives and replacing the captive nuts. I can get a batch of 100 run off if theres likely to be sufficient interest. Another way of doing it I came up with is to buy much longer ordinary M12s bolts, cut the threaded section of and re tap them to M12 x 1.25 - I have a few of these and the die to do it (the die turned up too late for me though).

Another thing - you really need to use bolts )with unthreadd section) not set screws (fully threaded) - you probably know that but others may not.

What size body lift yo8u got Tommo?

Namrick only list to 150mm - I needed 160 do they do longer do you know?

I'll get a price next week for a batch of 100 off at 160mm see what thats like.

machinest at work claims he can get the bolts(not sets) from one of our suppliers so will see what he come s up with.

Now you've got me worried 60mm lift going on next weekend when i measured the bolts 150mm seamed long enough hope i measured them right. :?

body lift

just spoke to the machinest and he assures me the bolts wont be a problem.they are 175 mm and he will turn them down to 160mm.apparently we use this size on a waste compacter we make so they keep a stock for us.as for the lift blocks he's making them from en 16 t bar which we have on stock.asked me if i wanted them in ally but didn't know if it would be strong enough.

Mine are ally and tbh most commercially bought ones are (LA soper Trux for instance).

I didn't bother machining em to cotton bobbins, ally ones are lighter as straight cylinders than steel ones machined down.

I'm thinking about going higher, and next time I'll use Nylon blocks.

Do you need same amount of blocks on lwb as swb.

From the manual there looks to be 10 mounting points on the LWB rather than 8 on the SWB.

body lift

have got a length of polypenco might use if nylon is strong enough, just have to check the length to see if i can get 10 blocks out of it.we use it as bushes on axle assemblies so would think it would be up to the job.

body lift blocks

just out of intrest what diameter bar did you use for your lift blocks HB?

75mm IIRC - same diameter as the shaped ones in the download - they mate with the bushes properly.

body lift

they just look quite big now ive had em made.he made them to the drawing in the download but just wanted to be sure. :?

t2 bodylift

you got me thinking about the nylon blocks HB so ive had a look at some web sites to price it up.just 1 of the blocks ive had made weighs about the same as a metre of nylon bar.can get a range of grades so might order a length and get my mate to machine some up for me.it costs about 35 quid a metre but it depends what grade you get.also as you mentioned about the tank area had a good look under there and dont think there should be any probs, might need to extend filler pipe and breather but not a big problem.if i can get everything sorted soon will do the lift over easter hols providing the mrs has no plans but we will see. :?

body lift

have now removed most of the body from the dead t2 so ive got some idea now on whats involved in doing the lift.thought about using the body mounts from mine and the ones from the one i'm breaking.any thoughts on if this would work.i know some sites sell the poly body lift blocks for the hilux and land cruiser.sold the steel ones i had made so i'm back to square one with the lift.have got a shed load of long bolts from the t2 that are the right thread pitch so i can see a very cheap option on the lift.

Doubling up the body mounts would work but I'm not sure how secure it would be putting all that rubber into the system. Spacers are pretty easy to ave knocked up its the bolts that are the issue. As a guide the standard bolts are 100mm long so you need that long plus however big a lift you're going to fit.
