I think tts how everyone else fits them:thumbs I done mine with big bolts though the roof

yea think so stinka heard a few folks say about using then or dropping the roof linner and bolting straight thru

After some more research i'm going to drop lining and try and fit at least 2 of them through the roof cross members, just collected them, its bloody raining tho ffs

I looked under the roof lining on my van with a view to doing this, in my opinion they need bolting through and re-enforcment of the roof!

yeh, thats what i'm aiming for. gonna drill through with a wider hole and space off the reinforcment plate to the roof bar foot with a few washers stacked, or a piece of steel tube, then i'll go through the middle of this spacer with the bolt into a rivnut or just a nilock nut on the re-enforcing bar

Nice find there Boy, id have been bidding to if id seen Em.:doh

I spend most evenings with one eye on tv and one eye on ebay looking at various things.

And less of the boy, u old fcker :lol

I thought of buying a thin sheet of galv steel and re-enforcing the roof side to side under the bars, a strip say 5 inches wide or so. as the roof does seem a bit flimsy at the front end. I think a lot of T2's with factory fit bars had a sun roof and the frame for the sun roof made the roof a lot stronger :thumb2

I used rivnuts and loads of waxol, did not fancy dropping the lining.

Rivnuts into outer skin ?

See I'm thinking this would be fine for load bearing as the load will be spread over the reinforcement bars, but I'm concerned about wind ripping the bars off the roof if a sheet of ply is secured to them

The roof doesn't need re enforcement, if you go though the cross members like Nissan done it's ok. Just use loads of sealant inside where you've drilled. Here's a thread I done of behind the lining on my terranos

Ryan has proved my point! his has a sunroof and therefore CROSS MEMBERS! if you don't have a sunroof there are no front CROSS MEMBERS.

This also proves the benefits of reading the thread properly :augie

so if you have no SUN ROOF you will have no CROSS MEMBERS, so your roof may need re-enforcing as It simply isn't strong enough

how do you know there is no cross members? surely there needs to be something to tie each side of the vehicle top together incase of a roll.

Got these spacer/insert things, any ideas where they go ?

I'm thinking they are for spacing between outer skin and cross members then bolt into a rivnut or nut other side of cross member

with that spacer thing there does not look like theres much thread left

That spacer is on wrong bolt, only some bolts have spacers, the ones that fall on a re enforcing bar, I presume

I'll cheak on my swb about crossmembers as it ain't got a sunroof. Can't remember if there's crossmembers at the front. Think the closest cross member to the front is the one that the roof light that's over the seats is mounted on
