Get any wires in that area clear out the way, even welding in close proximity could be enough to melt them all and then you're in for some more work :doh
Just go easy with the clips if you do go that route as I can imagine they will be very very brittle.
Cut it out as far back as it goes mate and replace where needed, easy for me to say only just being able to weld a little and not being able to fabricate myself.
Not sure of it’s exact name but plumbers merchants sell them. They are square mats about a foot square. They are made of somekind of black woven carbon material that is heat resistant and fire proof. Protected loads of stuff for me.
Pity that photo racket killed all the links on my project thread as I did some similar repairs.
When I did mine I used some bits of 6mm aluminium chequer plate I use under the stedies of the caravan to stop them sinking into the ground. I use them bridged over the weld area to lift and make sure everything stays weĺl clear. The aluminium deflects the heat nicely.
