today, first time in ages I drive with the windows open. As it turns out (quick check while still in the fields): passenger side outer cv boot gone, and I suspect the compression rod bushes about gone as well.

Boot is no problem, done the other side already last year. But for the compression rod: I presume I need this kit from Milners?

While I'm ordering parts, and since I have to have the wheel etc off: anything else you people advise on replacing?

You sure you haven't just snapped an anti roll bar link on the lower arm? Check that first and if it is intact make sure it's tight, could also be Propshaft UJ's, get under there and have a good looksie first before you waste any money

I'll get under the car tonight to have a good look, but in any case the boot needs replacing - can't miss a torn boot :)
I'll probably do the compression rod bushes anyway, they look mighty worn as well.
Let's hope the UJs and anti roll bar links are ok. UJs have been checked last year and were fine, and are regularly greased up. Links were replaced last year.

Check front prop and rear prop mate, front prop you will only notice clunking in 4WD or all the time if you have fixed hubs

So, the verdict: front prop and UJs are OK. One anti rollbar link is loose, but the nut is still attached - need to tighten.

CV boot is properly goosed, and it happened today. Grease was spread all over the wheel well.

I'll order the bushes as well, they did look very bad. Do both sides when I'm at it.

Banshee, I'd like to have you in a golden frame on the wall of my garage, for reminding me to check the AR links :)

You're welcome to :thumb2 i dream for the day when people have me on posters on their walls

To be honest unless your ARB link is fairly new I reckon it's probably bust rather than loose. I'm tempted to go rose joint way next time I need some.

Replaced last year... Link was OK, but the rubber bushes on one side were completely shot.
Ordered new ones in any case, just to have a spare. Also ordered a spare CV boot.

Did somebody say rose joint?

My 3.0 had fixed hubs and the front UJs went. Jees, it sounded like a skeleton having a w ank in a biscuit tin

That's exactly the sound I'm talking about :)
Rosejoints unfortunately no option, since Mr Belgian MOT man don't like them. And I don't feel like changing them back to normal links just for the yearly check.

What a ballache, try another tester, there's bound to be one you can get pally with who will turn a blind eye to an uprated part that despite legalities actually make the car safer

The question is...

...if we stay in Europe, these rules may end up here...

...

Lots to think about!
