loss of power on a Mav 2.7 td

My son has just bought a mav for not very much money. It has a peculiar fault where it starts up straight away, though pretty smokey, then, after the engine is fully warmed up, it's as if the turbo cuts out and you cannot rev the engine over around 3,000 rpm and the speed drops fairly dramatically on any incline. pull over, switch the engine off and, hey presto, you can rev to the red line! off you go and it happens all over again. weird stuff. we have managed a slight improvement after clearing all the vacuum pipes and checking for splits etc but i was wondering if anybody might know what the answer is?

many thanks for that, briggie. this little filter has already been taken out and cleaned twice, both times it was full of crap. Has anybody ever done a modification to add a more accessible in-line filter?

I might look at mine soon, never been looked at from new 16+ years, and 91k miles.
Has mine gone the longest without cleaning? 91 k miles :nenau

So could you have an issue with diesel bug, or sludge from using bio fuel.:nenau

Never done that in the past.....:lol:lol

injectors? maybe even glow plugs? they stay heated well after engine has started.....just a thought.
